Ubuntu 8.10 Release Candidate now available

If you're using Ubuntu 8.04, you can also upgrade automatically. You can find instructions in the release notes.
Intrepid Ibex features a number of updates since Ubuntu 8.04, although not enough to make the entire operating system unrecognizable. Users should notice a new version of the GNOME desktop environment with support for tabs in the file manager, and a bunch of bug fixes. There are also new optional desktop themes.
If you're using Ubuntu Studio to edit audio and video, it's recommended that you not upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 yet, since it uses Linux kernel 2.6.27 which can cause some latency problems.

it's always awesome news when a new version of ubuntu comes out. I've been using it solidly since 7.04 (which, by the way, seemed to have the most press coverage). 8.04 had some major bugs that bummed me out, but with all the work-arounds my thinkpad is a solid unix(like) machine. I only dual boot to XP for the few times I need to edit some video in premiere.
although my thinkpad came with vista (and I'm sure it's doing a lot better now), I scrapped it on day one to put ubuntu on there.

Once it works with the fingerpring reader on my Lenovo, I'm going to remove my NTFS partition and XP along with it.

I just installed Beta 1 on my spare laptop the other night. So far, I'm impressed. Best Ubuntu yet. Linux is no longer it's own biggest obstacle, instead the hordes of elitist Linux users are. Eh, it's a start.

I can't wait. Has the option been added in Nautilus yet that lets me resize the icons in the sidebar without downloading/installing/recompiling the source?

Before upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10, I'm looking for a video card recommendation. Which card best works for standard desktop work (not a laptop and no games) with 3D acceleration with Ubuntu 8.10? Any ideas?
