Jay's Favorite Mac Apps: Transmission
Now that torrent technology has become one of the most popular ways to distribute large files, it's important to find the right Bittorrent client. If you're on a Mac, that's Transmission. I used to be a fan of Azureus (now called Vuze), but I switched to Transmission because it's less cluttered and takes up a lot less screen real-estate.
Transmission's not bare-bones in terms of features -- you can fine-tune your upload and download speeds, change ports, and check your ratio -- but its design is minimal and not too distracting. I don't want a busy-looking torrent app, I want one that I can set up quickly and leave alone until my downloads finish. Transmission provides that, while still letting advanced users get under the hood where they need to. It's also free and open source! That's why it's one of my favorite Mac apps.

Transmission is one of my top apps for any system. Only one I think I would put above it would be Growl or Taskbar Switcher.

Agreed. Transmission rocks. I've seen it get progressively better and wound up ditching an entire PC because I no longer needed the bt client on it b/c Transmission runs great on my G4 mini.

Transmission is definitely a favorite of mine. It's the default bittorrent client on Ubuntu, by the way...

Yeah... Why not add the Linux tag to this post?
Transmission is great, unobtrusive, light and, may I say so, awesome!

Linux tag added! I only use Linux (Ubuntu!) on Parallels, so I hadn't looked into BT clients for it. Great to know Transmission is available there too.

Agreed, it's an awesome app!
A killer feature worth mentioning - the Web UI. It's as slick as the app UI but available over the local network - so you can check in on those long downloads from a phone/handheld/laptop or run a headless upload server to provide large content files. Great for a small business to cheaply distribute their software!

Those with windows feeling left out:
use uTorrent. It's super small and also rocks, i abandoned bitcomet for uTorrent a long time ago.

Switched to Transmission from BitRocket after the new Transmission had Remote control feature via HTTP....
Its an amazing feature.... I control my downloads from my iPhone....

Agree, Transmission is the best app for torrents out there. But I think the post is a bit misinforming because it does not point out that transmission is available for both OSX and Linux, making it sound like a mac-only application.
