Evolution email/PIM suite ported to Windows
Evolution is an Outlook clone for Linux that serves as an email client, calendar application, and a task and contact manager. DIP Consultants has released a version of Evolution that runs on Windows machines. If you don't want to shell out the cash on the latest version of Outlook, Evolution offers many of the same features, plus a few extras.
It supports a whole slew of online services including Exchange, IMAP, POP, iCal, and Google Calendars. Evolution also features integration with the Pidgin chat client.
Evolution for Windows supports Windows XP and Vista. But I have to say, it's not exactly an Outlook or Thunderbird killer just yet. On my test machine it took an unreasonably long time to launch. And it frequently froze while downloading messages from my Gmail account.

I wish something other than Outlook would sync with my WinMo phone.

I wanted to install but it says that it's not a Windows installer file...
I'll wait the next one, I think

So that text saying "Download 2.22.2.4 Windows Installer" is just a lie?
See http://www.dipconsultants.com/evolution/download.htm

barcaxavi - had the same problem after first download, the msi was too small. Downloaded it again, all worked fine.

Dunno.But I have XP SP2 on my PC, and I got an error message back when Iwanted to try.So that's it for me.
But I recommend Thunderbird!
Great for all of this stuff!

...so...a Thunderbird shill promotes lack of power and interoperability because...they can't do a download. Why am I not surprised. You forgot the obligatory "GiMP is just like Photoshop" and "beowulf cluster of those" lines...
Doofus.

Actually, doesn't this make it a better Outlook killer? It works just like Outlook but it's free...

never had a single problem with Outlook 2007 and in fact Thunderbird is just as slow and has the same amount of RAM usage as Outlook 2007. I don't see what all the fuss is about Thunderbird. If you already have a copy of Office 2007 (I have 4 unused licenses sitting next to me) then you'd be an idiot NOT to use Outlook.

I'll give Evolution another look, but the recent version didn't impress me. At home, I use Thunderbird (on Linux) and at the office I use Outlook (on XP). Frankly, I like the layout and function of Outlook overall and it works very well 95% of the time. Thunderbird works all the time, but just doesn't have all that Outlook does, even with a vibrant plug-in community. I use TB at home with the Webmail plug-in so I can get all of my email sans browser. Outlook, of course, can't do that. {I had someone point out a plug-in that makes TB ~look~ like Outlook. Not very helpful since it's the function I'm after.}
If Outlook were open-source, adhered to open standards, and had a productive plug-in community, TB and Evolution would have serious trouble competing. Actually, it might not even need to be open source. And, if 'ifs' were money, I'd be rich.
