There've been
numerous reports over the weekend that Microsoft has released another test build of Windows 7, the successor to Windows Vista. While I tend to take leaked screenshots with a grain of salt, I'm a sucker for video - even if it doesn't show that much. So today I bring you a video of the integrated calculator that
may ship with Windows 7.
For the most part, if the leaks are to be believed, Windows 7 will look and feel a lot like Windows Vista. Microsoft has been working on under the hood changes to the OS, not tweaks to the user interface. So while 7 will reportedly have a few noticable changes, most will be pretty subtle. A slightly tweaked start menu, for example, and the same type of ribbon user interface used in Office 2007
could show up in other applications like WordPad.
The new calculator actually looks kind of useful.
It will have a scientific mode, which is nice. But I'm more excited about the history feature. There's nothing as annoying as adding a bunch of figures and then forgetting which number you started with. OK, maybe a few things.

Why is DownloadSquad getting so outdated with posts? This was posted 4 days ago on Lifehacker and Gizmodo.

What are you talking about? If you click the Gizmodo source (http://gizmodo.com/5053010/two-tiny-tastes-of-windows-7-fancier-start-button-and-nifty-calculator) you can see it was posted today.

@Baez
If /you/ actualy clicked the link you'd see that those two videos were posted two days ago. With screenshots posted the day before that.

Yeah, even the calculator in Windows 3.1 had a scientific mode. :P
You can still download it from Microsoft too: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/124345

It's about time someone looked at these apps. Many haven't been undated since Windows 3.1. It boggles the mind.

So far I haven't been impressed with anything that has been revealed about Windows 7 -- it simply looks like a variant of Vista.
I'm sticking with XP for the indefinite future. Microsoft can pry XP from my cold, dead hard drive.

The GUI is the last part that gets done... there will be changes to the GUI but the "main" changes done to the AERO GUI in Vista are what the bulk of the XP user's wanted...

If you don't want to wait for Windows 7, enjoy the free Microsoft Calculator Plus, a rather sophisticated Calculator which offers Conversion mode in addition to the well known Standard and Scientific modes.

or, if you're not too fond of the WGA check, get it from Softpedia:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Microsoft-Calculator-Plus.shtml
tip: to replace the regular Windows calculator with Calculator Plus, copy CalcPlus.exe from the installation folder to windows\system32. backup and delete calc.exe, rename CalcPlus.exe to calc.exe. now you may uninstall Calculator Plus from the add/remove programs menu.

For a nice online calculator check out http://www.eCalc.com
The calculator support both infix and RPN mode. It has a built in unit converter, equation solver, and a few other nice features.

A nice improvement though several years late as most of us who actually use a calculator on-screen have found suitable utilities. I also wonder if the software developers at MS have ever tried using the calculator on something less than a 32 inch screen? Many of the keys are illegible on my laptops.

Yah, the calculator is what's tipping the scale in favor of getting Vista.
Now let's see if Microsoft do other trivial things, like fixing the it-takes-forever-just-to-start-copying-files...

For you people who think that Windows 7 is not going to be any better than Vista just because it doesn't look any better, are a bunch retards. Just because it doesn't look any different, doesn't mean they didn't improve it. The article did say that the changes were "under the hood" changes, not many cosmetic changes are being made yet.
