Alerts sends you email and SMS alerts for practically anything
While there are a number of other services out there that offer email alerts for news items, stock updates or other information, Alerts aims to bring everything together in one tidy package. You can manage all of your alerts by visiting the alerts web site which looks a bit like a personalized homepage like iGoogle or Netvibes. Except all of the widgets are alerts you've set for yourself.
You can choose to have alerts sent once or on a recurring basis. You can either choose from a set of custom alerts or write a note that you can have delivered as a text message to your phone at a later time. You can even set a wakeup call for yourself. There's also a "do not disturb" option that lets you temporarily pause all alerts.

Google alert already does that without needing an account.

Actually Google Alerts is far from delivering anything like what Alerts.com offers. Google Alerts only give you updates about something specific you requested when that something appears ON THE WEB. Google Alerts won't send you your horoscope, won't tell you the traffic between your home and work place, won't reminde you when it is your mom's birthday, won't tell you when the fare from home to that dream vacation goes on sale when now you can afford it, it won't tell you if the price of that Big Screen TV you got at BestBuy just dropped 20% and you're eligible for a refund, it won't tell you that the latest gadget you've been looking for was posted on Craigslist, it won't tell your that your favorite sports team just won or lost, it won't... do much, actually, of what matters most to what we care about, personally.
