WebChunks Brings IE8's Slices to Firefox
After testing the beta releases, one of the most promising features in Internet Explorer 8 is Web Slices. While it's a cool idea, it's not enough to drag me away from Firefox. Am I missing out on something?
Not any more, thanks to the WebChunks addon.
Add Webchunks to your Firefox installation, and then head over to the Internet Explorer 8 Gallery site. All of the web slices available there work just great in Firefox. Keep in mind that some may look a little ugly, due in part to them being created for IE.
I added the StumbleUpon, Digg, and Me.dium slices to my Firefox 3, and they all worked (though Digg's formatting is a bit out of whack).
I'm all for switching to a new browser if it has some really killer features I can't do without, but as long as developers keep coming up with slick addons for the Fox, there's no way I'll change.

Though the slices thing is cool I guess, I'm much more a fan of IE8's accelerators. IMHO it's the best thing IE got going for it. Without even having to right click that huge list of options is immediately and always available to you. It really does accelerate your browsing. And the fact that there's a dedicated site which aggregates all the assorted Accelerators is even better. The smart bar and improved searching is great as well, especially compared to Google Chrome's cleverly thought out but poorly executed Omni bar. Still, all of this isn't enough to make me want to leave firefox. Make sure to let us know when there is a similar Accelerator's addon for firefox though!

You should perhaps look at the up and coming Mozilla's ubiquity: http://labs.mozilla.com/2008/08/introducing-ubiquity/
I think this has far more potential than anything I've seen Microsoft coming up with.

You could just tweak your prefetch settings in Firefox, you know?

You can get IE8 accelerators for Firefox. Check out Michael Kaply's excellent extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6777
