Kick Windows Explorer to the curb with AccelMan File Manager
Windows Explorer keeps getting a tiny bit better with each new Windows release. But for some reason Microsoft refuses to offer one thing that many other file managers have had for years: a two-pane window. If you want to copy files from one folder to another, you need to open two separate Explorer windows.
There are a whole slew of free replacements for Windows Explorer. But one of the new kids on the freeware block is AccelMan, a utility that you used to have to pay for, but which was recently set free. Make sure to download and install the registry key from the download page or you'll just get a 30 day free trial.
In addition to a two-pane window, AccelMan has a ton of powerful features, including:

- Built-in file splitter
- Hexadecimal editor

There's a serious problem with this. It's been known to simply not run on some people's computers. I have vista, and this will refuse to run, even though it's supposed to fully support vista

Or... you could select the files on the right and drag them to another folder on the left. No 3rd party stuff required.

What I still want is a Mac Finder-like version. Not with the Coverflow crap, but the two-three pane inline directory exploration. It's one of the only things I found useful about the Mac interface.

UltraExplorer does this, except better - I can never get the columns wide enough in Finder.

Uh, no. That folder tree on the left is there for a reason, just drag the files from the source folder on the right to the destination in the tree on the left. I couldn't be simpler.

This one sounds interesting, but I don't need a two pane explorer as much as I need tabs in my explorer. I use XYplorer, the last freeware version, which runs smoothly enough on XP SP2. I interact between so many places on my hard drive so frequently that it works better to have a dozen tabs open to the main directories. Then the folder tree on the left allows me to jump to where I need to be. Still need to click between tabs if I'm moving files to totally different parts of my file system, but this is by far the most efficient way I could do things.

For those people who are having problem opening AccelMan File Manager, (My Temporary Fix) "I am using Xp Pro, SP3, Quad Core."
You can try this. Using Windows Explorer. Go to C:\Program Files\Flexigen\AccelMan\bin\accelman.exe

accelman.exe. right click, Properties, Compatibility, Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 98 / Windows Me, click Apply, click OK. I hope this help others. sorry about the triple post.
