Download Day: How did Firefox 3 do?
Mozilla is still waiting to get confirmation from the folks at the Guinness Book of World Records before proclaiming the official number, but Mozilla Links pegs the number at 8,290,908, give or take a few. And NetApplications says that Firefox 3 went from less than 1% of the browser market this morning to almost 3% in a matter of 13 hours.
No matter what, Mozilla will have set a world record though -- since they're competing in a brand new category.

Seriously... I see the map more and more and it reminds me a lot Command And Conquer Red Alert.
Even though its a new area of Guinness Records, its something very amazing that they managed to achieve that mark in such a short time.
I wonder how much will be in about a Week.

Many downloads are faked. E.g. Lithuania has 279k+ downloads, which is just impossible. And by the way, 230k+ downloads were made only 2 hours before the end of the official download day.

Well, the biggest argument is that there are only ~1mln internet users in Lithuania in total, how could it be, that 1/5 of them downloaded firefox on download day? It's just impossible. By the way, Latvia has more internet users than Lithuania (or very similar count). And there it was downloaded only 11k+.
Lithuania has only ~3mln citizens, compare this number to china _internet users count_.. How could it be, that Lithuanians have downloaded more times than Chinese? It's even more impossible.
And those who watched numbers growin' saw, that all those 230k+ were downloaded on the last 2 hours.

I just dont believe Lithuanian results are fake,firstly almost every i-net user in lithuania knewd about download day,second Then i was in lecture in my universiti i asked my friends did they downloaded it 90% of anwsers was positive... Besides there are 3 millions peoples,but not 1 pc per household,every laptop,work pc ,classes and so on.. ;)

Firefox users are only 25.5%. So if there are 1mln users in total, only 255k are using firefox. Is there possibility that all of them downloaded firefox to their computers + invited new users to download it? Mission impossible ;)

I downloaded firefox 3 times for each of my networked computers so it's rather pointless trying make general guess about the figures. Also depends on what the definition of a valid vs fake download is..

What hour was it in Lithuania when the 200K+ downloads took place? I agree if those numbers are correct that its hard to imagine around a 25% adoption rate... but then again if it was when everyone was waking up, then hey....

I've noticed that numbers were going up very fast from about ~16:00 (4pm). At this time everyone are probably going home.
hazard, even if you have downloaded Fx3 for 3 computers, there aren't so many advanced/intermediate internet users in Lithuania, that knew about firefox and knew about download day.
As I said, numbers says it all. We can trust Gemius numbers, because it's the leader and precursor of complex Internet research in Central and Eastern Europe.

You aren't true, we have around 1.85 million internet users in Lithuania according to the newest statistics. So why it could be even impossible if 17% of them downloaded Firefox when its popularity in Lithuania is around 20-30% ?? Our biggest news portals were spreading the information about this event all day, so I think every Lithuanian news reader could got involved in the Download Day.
Everything is possible, as I say. Aurelijus, you simply DON'T HAVE any evidence or facts about your claims so please don't blame Lithuanians with no reason.

Okey Tomas, lets say we have 1.85 mln users, 25% of them uses Firefox. So there should be around 460k active firefox users. You say that 73% of them downloaded the upgrade? Show me at least one country where Firefox was downloaded by even 10% internet users? Show me at least one country were Firefox was downloaded by even 50% of their active users.
Maybe theoretically it is possible, but not in reality or compared to other countries.

And by the way - http://www.en.ranking.pl/ 35.8% poland users use Firefox. Compare their internet users count to Lithuanians and you'll get total non-sense ;)

Ok everyone, stop counting Lithuanians. The record was for most DOWNLOADS not most USERS. So let each Lithuanian download 10-20 times, it's still a valid record.

Well, theoretically you are right. However I would say that world record should be downloads by unique users. I mean unique computers or smth like that. In other way it's just not a real record.

Aurelijus, you are making one mistake - you counting only existing Firefox users. I have few Macs and use only Safari but accidentally pressed ad for downloading Firefox - and - why not? - downloaded it.

Just Say NO to FirePox!
The Mothzilla people have brought FirePox 3 out of it's beta cocoon after oh so long! Millions download it in the first few hours! What's the very first thing that happens to it? It's hacked! Well so much for SBS "Standards Based Software"!

In a nice fantasy world where every one loves each other, where pixies fly, where we all just share and get along, SBS rules. BUT, we don't live there! The Open-sourcers, SBS crowd, moonies, lunnies, iTards, Alien-Mothershipers and Linux people will just have to face the truth one day!
THE TRUTH: Hackers love "open" standards! Everyone can have this stuff, it's free, free to have and free to manipulate, free to corrupt!
What the world really needs is proprietary systems and software and standards! The kind of stuff that a hacker will have to take years trying to figure out the source to! Then when they do get close we change it all up on them, frustrate them, force everybody to upgrade or be left behind! Every company will have their own way of doing things as they see fit! Isn't that really what true freedom is all about? Doing things your way! Not being told by others that you have to "share", to play well with others, to make the intellectual property which you have slaved over "open and accessible" to anybody who comes along!
C'mon people! If you want to see MY pictures, shouldn't you have to user MY viewer? Isn't that truly basic fairness, equity and just plain decency? What's mine is mine and what's yours is yours! It's only "ours" if you pay for it!
All of these freeloaders are really getting on my nerves! I prefer to pay my way! I like buying or renting, not living in some God-forsaken "free and open" hell hole with no doors or windows!
