NexusFile - Putting Windows Explorer out of its misery
What's one of the worst things about Windows? The explorer function to find folders, documents, and pictures of your cat doing funny things.NexusFile aims to replace Windows Explorer.
Here are some of the cool features that NexusFile sports that the Windows team left out on Explorer:
- Favorite Folders
- Tab support - This is a big productivity one
- Smart bar that remembers the directories that you were in
- Archive function built in (zip, rar ace, with password support)
- Disk cleanup tool
- Built in FTP client
If you're moving files from one directory to another a lot, then this is worth a shot.

Does this do anything that xplorer2 doesn't, other than the commenting tool?
velocitySTRIKEJun 3rd 2008 12:08PM
It does "free"

Yeah, ok, sorry -- xplorer2lite

My eyes! my eyes!
It's ugly. I can't use it. Thanks anyway!

I'm blind too... :-|

I guess I'm the only Windows user on the planet that likes Explorer just fine.

Browsing tabs are better than two open explorer windows? Can you drag and drop between them?
You know what would be useful though? Batch renaming!

Did you not go to the Website and look at "Advanced Rename" feature? It looks like even gives you a preview of the new filename before you commit the changes. ZOWIE!

try BeyondCompare in conjunction with Metamorphose (beta)

Dude... Relax, it's called IRONY!!!
Or you don't find funny that third parties can come up with a replacement for explorer that works WAY BETTER than explorer itself?
Kudos to the NexusFile team.

Try Directory Opus, it is on the market since Opus 1: January 1990 and never failed me. It has everything you probably want and if it doesn't you can make a script for that job.

What i would really like is a Dual-pane explorer replacement (like x2 or this NexusFile) with a friggin undo delete button.
I use x2lite most of the time, but the lack of a undo delete/move is annoyin the hell outta me.

Wait I've been leaving comments on my files using windows explorer on both XP and Vista... A little annoying to do but doable nonetheless.... Vista even has more options that I can enter like tags. One thing that caught my attention is the TABS function.

Check out UltraExplorer - it's fast, stable, and a very solid substitute for WinExplorer. We've used it extensively, and since we found it, it has become the file management tool of choice for most of the staff.

Thanks alot for that. UltraExplorer was new to me. I've tried most but I downloaded it, and it's brilliant! It's not ugly and the Quick filter is just what I've been after.

Features left out of explorer? I think not... (all these observations made on Vista)
Favorite Folders - definitely have this (on this left, called "Favorite Links")
Tab support - ok, yes on this one, but as others have pointed out, I like dragging between windows
Smart bar that remembers the directories that you were in (defintely always had this)
Archive function built in - has this, but only for ZIPs
Disk cleanup tool - has this too
Built in FTP client - albeit a not very good one, but it does have one
