Hungarian student throws eggs at Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer
OK let's be honest. Who hasn't wanted to throw eggs at Steve Ballmer at some point. You know, you're up late at night trying to finish some report, and suddenly your computer crashes and you lose three hours worth of work (never mind the fact that this could have all been avoided if you hit the save button every now and again), and you turn to the sky and scream BALLMER!!!!
Well, maybe it's not as bad as all that. But when Ballmer spoke at the Hungarian University of Economy today, one student started throwing eggs at the Microsoft CEO. According to Valleywag, the act was meant to protest the millions of dollars Hungary's government spends to license Microsoft software at universities. While he's mostly yelling in Hungarian, you can make out a bit of English when he not-so-politely asks Ballmer to give the money back to the taxpayers.
The whole thing was caught on video. Note that Steve Ballmer was not harmed in the making of this video, but several eggs lost their shells.

I can't believe he missed with three eggs from that range.
Interesting that no security goons grabbed him and smashed him to the floor, just walks calmly out of the theatre. I bet if you did that in the US you wouldn't be walking yourself out the door ;)

wait...so, he's angry that the gov has to pay for something they use...am I missing something here? I mean it would be nice if MS allowed them to use their software for free, but it should really be at their discretion. I mean MS is a business that pays to produce their products.

No (I am writing from Hungary).
It seems that Microsft payed a lot to the members of the hungarian government for a little service (Corruption).
This January a tender of software procurement was published with the term: "Microsoft (or equivalent) software"...
Which means that the tender was positively discriminating Microsoft and the open source software vendors couldn't even send their offer!!!!
Egg isn't a solution but it shows that hungarians are really angry of the fact that the whole government can be bought by someone like Steve Ballmer!

I don't like Ballmer much either, but there's a far better way of getting the message across better. Throwing eggs won't change much.
I'm guessing the university must feel pretty embarrassed about the whole deal, and it's thanks to this kid if they don't get another well-known speaker for awhile.
Also, why not blame the government? MS didn't force Hungary to make a deal. Considering his friend has some Apple laptop with him, I call this a shenanigan.

The Hungarian Prime minister, Ferenc Gyurcsány also gets his eggs when he appears in public. We Hungarians throw a lot of them. And tomatoes, too. Sometimes stones, and that's only when the police intervenes.

guess that explains why nobody [except Ballmar] was particularly surprised by his actions and he was treated as a nuisance rather than a security risk.
i saw a picture taken from behind Ballmer as the guy was throwing the first egg and everyone in the audience had a big smile on thier face .. even the suits in the first row!
