TypeRacer: Competitive typing test - Time Waster
You probably think you're hot stuff because you can type 90+ words per minute. But how well do you perform when you've got a couple of other speed typists hot on your heels? While competitive typing isn't likely to hit the Olympics, or even ESPN2 anytime soon, TypeRacer is an online game that makes typing speed tests a bit more interesting by letting you see how your skills stack up against others.
TypeRacer asks you to type a relatively short snippet of text, which may be a quote from a book, movie, or something else you can purchase on Amazon (the site is designed to make money by getting you to click on Amazon affiliate links). As you're typing, a little car will move across the screen and you can see other drivers/typists racing. New races start pretty regularly so you should only have to wait a few seconds to join a race.
Just remember, if you spend too much time eying the competition, you're going to fall behind and then you'll never make the high scores list.

Cool and addicting, yes.
But on the high score list, how are people getting 200+ wpm? Is that a bug, a super-easy test, or is that real? Maybe the Dvorak keyboard?
The world's fastest typist was measured at 170 wpm : http://web.syr.edu/~rcranger/blackburn.htm
She used a Dvorak keyboard layout:
"Barbara Blackburn - the world's fastest typist - was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for 14 years as the world's fastest typist. She typed at a speed of 170 wpm using the Dvorak keyboard (she has acheived 212 wpm in short bursts)."

This particular typing test is extraordinarily short, just a few sentences. If you have a good run and don't have to hit backspace or struggle with a word you always misspell, it's pretty easy to get 100+ wpm. I think I hit about 120 in my best run so far, which is *far* faster than I type in real world conditions.

83wpm for me, and that was on a good run. Don't think I'm going to be hitting 100wpm anytime soon :)
It is very addictive and a great idea.

It's a brilliant brilliant exercise and a lovely game. It's a wonderful game that not only improves the typing skills of a large number of internet community, but also is all time fun. A very addicting game. One just can't keep himself stop playing again and again.
Great Job !!!
