Microsoft to kill Hotmail Outlook Express support
If you use Outlook Express to manage your Hotmail account, Microsoft wants you to download Windows Live Mail instead. Come June 30th, Microsoft will be shutting off Hotmail support for Outlook Express because the company is switching the protocol used by Hotmail from DAV to a newer protocol called DeltaSynch.
The move isn't really intended to inconvenience Outlook Express users. It's just that Outlook Express uses outdated protocols. Windows Live Mail is available as a free download, and it supports POP3 and IMAP as well as DeltaSynch. Microsoft says the new protocol does a better job of handling large email inboxes since it allows your email client just to download changes since the last synch instead of grabbing every single header, as DAV does.
While it's possible to add DeltaSynch support to Outlook Express, Microsoft decided it would be easier to push its new email client. Or you could always just access your webmail services like Hotmail through the web interface. Do you still use a desktop email client, and if so which one do you use?

Does anyone know whether Thuderbird and WebMail add-ins will still work with Hotmail under DeltaSynch please? I will not be able to use MS LiveMail, as I still run W2000 OS.

I've slowly started upgrading my sales reps laptops to the new Windows Live Mail. What they are experiencing now is error messages saying they are out of resources. The problem didn't occur until the Windows Live Mail client was installed. A reboot corrects the problem, but since most of my sales reps are extremely computer illiterate, I get numerous phone calls about this issue.
Does anyone know if this change effects Outlook? I would think that Outlook would continue to be able to access Hotmail accounts. Forgive me if this has already been answered.
Thanks!

I have Outlook and Outlook Express on my PC but use only OE for e-mail. Can I just switch to using Outlook to download & save my hotmail E-Mail instead of OE?
Please someone put me out of my misery....
Thanks - Geoff (UK)

Don't kill off support for OE. Windows live mail doesn't work in China but OE does.... Users in China have reported problems even accessing hotmail from the browser. Unless of course WLM solves that problem, I have used WLM and like it, but it doesn't work in China anymore.

Please do not kill off OE support. In China there are problems accessing hotmail and OE works perfectly. WLM was working before, but it got shut off as well. Unless WLM works the same way as OE, otherwise, please think about the users in China, and wherever there are problems accessing hotmail. Please note, even browsing www.hotmail.com is not possible in China. This is from Shenzhen, one of the better cities.

Though I have DSL, i still us Outlook Express for my mail client. I've tried all the others but still come back to OE. I have three different work emails (IMAP) and two Hotmails and my regular ISP email which I can view all these quickly in one place. But the main reason is that I like the "view source" feature of Outlook Express. When creating a new email you can add HTML source code and it is also possible to see the source code of other emails. This is very beneficial in my line of work. Haven't found this feature on any other mail client. If anyone knows of another...please let me know. So for me, it a real drag that MS is taking hotmail away from all of us that use OE. Thanx!

I'm using Outlook 07 & Hotmail, does that mean come Jun 30 I,m out of business unless I switch to WLM? WLM is no replacement for OE never mind Outlook. Anybody know what my options are?
