How sustainable are you?
Make Me Sustainable from Download Squad on Vimeo.
You know you should go green, you want to make a difference but, how? It's not easy, few things worth doing are. Make Me Sustainable takes an interesting approach to the green problem by giving you a way to track your own impact, and the impact of your influence.
Christina caught up with the guys from Make Me Sustainable during South By Southwest, and they gave us a lot to think about, and a great preview of what you'll find at MakeMeSustainable.com

I prefer the term "petit" ;-) I'm 5'5 -- those guys are both just really tall. Not that I'm complaining.

Actually, she's not _that_ short. Ok, just a little.. but the guys from Make Me Sustainable are tall. Like, "could have been models if they weren't out saving the planet" kinda tall.

Except that global warming isn't happening. We still aren't at the temperature high we experienced during the medival warm period, and they weren't exactly burning crude oil back then. Temperatures then collapsed (did you know it was snowing in July when part of the USA's revolutionary war was fought) and we're coming out of that period at a linear rate. Crude usage has exponentially increased, and there is no correlation with a linear temperature increase.
We're experiencing high oil prices for a number of reasons, mainly refinery capacity (nearly all of it is done domestically, and nearly all of it was damaged with hurricane Katrina). However, regional instability at every crude source is contributing to the problem.
Car companies are pushing more expensive high margin, cheaper built, less safe, buckets of birdcrap (hybrids) on us. No one would buy the Prius before this, "OMG GLOBAL WARMING IS TEH HAX." They've found a way to make us paranoid, and like any good business, they're going to make as much money off it before this fad fashion statement disappears.
Ex: Al gore couldn't exactly win an election to a president who everyone dislikes, but hell, he can sure make money (around $51 million) on this entertainment fad.
Don't get me wrong, I do believe the USA should become energy independent, but I'm sick of everywhere I turn some long haired pot smokin hippie is pushing "Green" everywhere I turn. When I want to read about it, I'll find it on google news, probably in the entertainment section

Oh man, that was great. Nice to see people step out of the frenzy long enough to use their heads.
