HP launches Upline, offers unlimited storage for a fee
If it feels like the online storage and file sharing market is getting a little crowded, that's because it is. Just in the past few weeks, we've seen services such as Dropbox, AOL's Xdrive Desktop, Windows SkyDrive, and more, come into the market.
Now HP is dropping its hat into the ring, with HP Upline. HP Upline offers unlimited storage for as low as $59 per year. Features of Upline include:
- Automatic Backup
- 1-click restore
- Access from anywhere
- Ability to share files with friends
One other note: The Upline software requires Windows. Mac users, you're out of luck. Well, out of Upline, anyway.
It's nice to see that two formerly disparate services, online backup and file sharing, are slowly merging into one complete service, with the choice of several offerings from big players.

Make sense for it not being mac compatible since they're selling windows based PC. Wonder if it'll be linux compatible too.
How safe are these online backups by the way?

I'm not really trusting the new online storage venturers.
The market is already saturated with MANY online storage solutions. It seems as though these big corporations (whose primary interests resides in hardware/software/advertisement sales) are just jumping onto the bandwagon for a trial ride.
I will have to wait and see how well these companies do with online storaging before I consider them (1-2 years). Right now, I'd rather host and backup my personal files to companies whose primary interest surrounds online data storage.

Professional account indicates as low as $8.99/month. Annual fee for 3 licences (baseline) is $249/year. Additional licences (up to 100) are $79/year. I can't find anything where the $8.99 makes sense. Anyone else see what I can't?

Is there a Mac equivalent to HP Upline? I tried it on my PC laptop and loved the ease and simplicity. But, I need the same for a Mac and I can't find it. Any ideas?

I wish we could tell you that HP Upline was available for the Mac as well, but alas, that is not the case. It's too bad, because the HP Upline interface was pretty slick, and seemed to work well in our tests.
