DivX to shut down Stage6 video sharing service

Stage6 never really got the kind of attention that its competitors like YouTube and DailyMotion have. But Stage6 has supported high definition video streaming longer than almost anyone else. Their video player is slick and easy to use, and we can only hope that another company will license the technology.
Last year DivX considered selling Stage6 or spinning the service off as a private company, but neither option seemed economically feasible. The company has now decided that it can't justify the cost of running the bandwidth-heavy service and instead will focus on working with hardware makers to deliver DivX-certified devices like media extenders, DVD players, and video game consoles.

Stage 6 was the best thing to happen to the net!!!!!!!! Excellent quality movies, cartoons, anime, documrntaries etc, makes Google/youtube laughable. I do hope it will return and i woulddefinately pay monthly for it, although not very much.

Man I miss stage6 and agree with Anons comment.
I'm just still distraught over the fact that they shut down inside of the one week my comcast internet connection was turned off due to trying to catch up with the bills.
There was SO MUCH I wanted to download there still and thought I had the time. I should've known it was too good to be true and even told a friend when I first came across it that it was probably a DivX promo sight with a short lived life. What I liked most about it was being able to view programs from other countrys.
"The Joker"..I think you may be right. DivX needs to flourish. Kicks 'Flashes" ass. "Shuki"...so true.
Stage6 Ruled! I can't believe I wasn't there to witness its coming demise..was cheated out of being able to absorb everything I wanted before the end, including seeking communication ties with certain acquaintances there..now I've lose complete touch with! They should've given about a months notice to give everyone time to wind down.
I would've paid for the service. Did they even think to explore that route?

even though in you tube we can watch video's quickly but the quality is poor. i really enjoyed watching video's in stage6. i came to aware about this site just before 3 months. i don't know why this site didn't get much publicity as that of youtube .But once this gets good publicity this site will be on the top. .................but i am soo sad of shutdown of stage.c :(

Yes most don't want to bother with loading plug ins nor do most even know how to deal with even the simplest site / player setups. I for one loved stage6 and never had a single problem with the site or the vids. Sure downloads took longer, what the hell would you expect, HD quality vids. Anyway, I've searched and there isn't one site that comes even close to what they were able to offer. So at least we know it can be done but as many have mentioned most don't care so that sucks for those of us that do care about quality. I won't watch or listen to anything less. But then again I don't waste my time with much of what the net has to offer, way to much crap online. Stage6 was what the net should look and feel like. So, maybe one day those of us that care will have something to look forward to online again. I even used Stage6 as my homepage if that tells you anything. I would pay for a site like stage6, provided it offers updated material weekly. Hell they could have sold the full concert vids and paid for the rest of the site easily, there isn't one single site out there that offers you full length concerts in HD.. Wow I really miss my Stage6. Dam it!
