Sleeveface: Try doing this with your MP3 collection

Remember back in the 80s when there was a huge debate among audiofiles over whether CDs could truly replace vinyl? The reasoning was that digital samples of audio couldn't hold a candle to the analog reproduction you get with a good old fashioned record. You know, until your record player needle wears out the grooves in the disc.

Well, that battle may have become mostly moot in recent years. You can still find plenty of vinyl records, but most are vintage. And consumers have demonstrated time and time again that they aren't particularly concerned with audio fidelity as they purchase and trade low quality MP3 files. So what to do with that massive pile of records you've got collecting dust in the basement?

Sure, you could try to digitize them or sell them at the local record shop. Or you could take part in the latest internet phenomenon: Sleeveface. All you need to do is stick a record with an image of a face or other body part in front of yourself, snap a picture and show it off somewhere on the internet.

Don't believe this is a real phenomenon and not just a couple of kids messing around? Last time we checked there were 553 results for "sleeveface" on Flickr.
