I intentionally violated one of these protocols: I received some email which contained an offensive passive-aggressive political joke. I hit the Reply All button, and told everyone on the list (99% of whom I did not know) that I thought the "joke" stank.

The original sender is furious at me.

Too damn bad...for him. The "joke" *still* stank. And if he didn't want to be vulnerable to this, he should have BCC'ed everyone, like #4 (Keeves) said.

"And really, is all this sneaking around actually necessary?" I guess it depends on how (potentially) offensive the stuff "you" are forwarding/mass-emailing is.
