This edition covers:
- Financial charting gadget for iGoogle
- Google Docs Uploader for Windows
- Write a book in Google Docs
- An overview of the other Google stories we covered earlier this week
Financial Charting gadget for iGoogle
Take a bath in the market this week? Yeah, us too. Well, it might not reverse some of the market trends, but one of the guys on the Google Finance team has created a very cool little gadget for iGoogle that can display larger chart data with a little hot/cold analysis. This isn't an official Google gadget, just something a member of the team created for fun, but we think it's pretty slick.
Google Docs Uploader for Windows
The Google Data API team has releases a very cool utility for Windows users as a way of demonstrating the Documents List Data API. The Documents List Uploader allows you to upload multiple documents to Google Docs at once, via a right-click menu or drag and drop. It can also be used to delete documents.
Write a book in Google Docs
Google Blogoscoped has a really great entry about using Google Docs to collaboratively write a book. The article goes into details about creating an outline in Google Docs, inserting images and the pros and cons between Google Docs and something like Microsoft Word. If you are interested in using Google Docs for a collaboration with another writer, this is worth a read.
And here are some other stories we've been following this week:
- Create custom iGoogle skins with igThemer - igThemer lets you create a theme for your iGoogle page without coding knowledge.
- Mobilize any web page with Google Reader - Using the RSS feed from your site in Google Reader may be a very easy way to create an option for mobile users without having to recode your page.
- Gmail - video of your stories - Google put the call out for users to submit their "Gmail stories" and have now collaboratively created a 1:34 YouTube video of the results.
- Google Docs gets even more new features - This is pretty big, Google Presentations now allows you to save presentations in the PDF format and perform PDF-style printing. Vector shapes have also been added, but the real advantage is with the ability to save as a PDF, which can be especially beneficial for business presentations that need to be e-mailed or distributed in a printed packet.
- YouTube Mobile expands - YouTube Mobile has received a significant upgrade. Now all videos are accessible from compatible phones. Handsets compatible with a special Java midlet can also upload content directly to YouTube, a la the iPhone.
