TUGzip: Decompress anything
Have no idea what an ACE file is? Got a few ISO files laying around but you have no idea what they are? Well peek inside using Freeware archival utility TUGZip. TUGZip opens every archive format you could possibly care about, and several more, you probably don't.
- Archive formats - ZIP, 7-ZIP, A, ACE, ARC, ARJ, BH, BZ2, CAB, CPIO, DEB, GCA, GZ, IMP, JAR, LHA (LZH), LIB, RAR, RPM, SQX, TAR, TGZ, TBZ, TAZ, YZ1
- Disc image formats - BIN, C2D, IMG, ISO and Nero's NRG

IMO, 7-Zip / IZArc are the best freeware compression tools other there.

Izarch and 7-zip are both excellent programs. I mentioned TUGzip because I had never heard of it before, and at first glance it seemed like a great program, perhaps it could use further development, in which case I hope this post convinces the author to continue work on it. Because it is very promising.

I used to use 7zip exclusively. Now I use ALZip (http://www.altools.net/). The main feature that won me over was something I miss from my Mac days... ALZip will extract an archive when you double-click it! Now if only you could set it to delete the archive after extraction it would be perfect!

According to the author's news dated 9 April, 2007:
"...Unfortunately the future of TUGZip does not look very bright at the moment. I need to figure out what to do. ..."
No new updates since then. Guess I'll be staying with 7-zip...

Why couldn't they add .DAA =(. Poweriso is SUCH a pain.

@CT A: Sounds like you need a little program called DAA2ISO

After making so many corrupt zip files with TUGZip, I've just avoided the product all together. Dunno why, but files over 2GB consistently get corrupted by the software on our servers.

Like many free zip programs, TugZip fails to decompress passworded RAR files with the encrypted filenames option set.
7-zip however will handle such files without any issue.

I use uniexctract on files that winrar can't open, it even extracts setup files. http://legroom.net/software/uniextract

TugZip has some bugs, like it does not extract empty folders from a zipfile. That's an old bug. (see forum)
These days, I'm using IZarc.

I also had problems this programs, and after reading other's experiences I would hesistate to trust this for my important files. There are far better free programs out there, 7zip for example. Myself, I bought a copy of Powerarchiver and have been very satisfied with it.

UIF?
MarkJan 23rd 2008 8:20AM
If you mean the UIF image format, no. It's proprietary and MagicISO is the only program that supports it.
