Verify any email address
UPDATE: There are reports circulating that this could be a spam/email harvesting site. Use at your own discretion. As with any other email entry service, you have no idea what may happen with your address. Thanks Jeff.UPDATE2: Please see Alex Rose comments below, webmaster of the service.
Have you ever scribbled down a new contacts email address, only to arrive to your computer and get frustrated with the fact that you can't read your chicken scratch? You are now left with two choices...send emails out to all different variations of the email address, or use Verify Email Address.
Verify Email Address takes the guess work out of whether or not an email address is active. The system verify's email addresses by connecting to the mail server in question and checking that the user name and mailbox exist. Of course this tool can also be used to check out how people have their mail servers set up, which could pose somewhat of a security threat.

I would be more impressed if they configured their server correctly.
In order to fight SPAM lots of servers require some minimum levels of correctness in order to accept email. For instance I require that the sender have a fully qualified address or I will reject their email.

This service suggests that my email address is back, but really it's their bad.
Sender address rejected: need fully-qualified address

On first glance I thought this might be a really useful site, but after I think about it some more, I worry that it might be used as a way to harvest viable e-mail addresses for spamming. Is that a valid concern or am I being paranoid?

Brent - DHA is already a problem. People who do it don't need a site like this, they already have software to hammer your mail server.

It would be nice if my mail app used this service to check if an email came from a real server or was just spam and delete on site.

It doesn't work on Yahoo Mail. I tested my current email and the one I deleted months ago. Both didnt give me the results I was expecting.

Look closely at the small print at the bottom of the box: "EmailMarketingPro". An email address verification service by a company that specializes in sending out advertising email.
Oh yeah, I really want to hand them email addresses. NOT!

Brent - that could indeed be a valid concern.

LifeHacker removed their post about this site because they were identified as a spam email harvesting tool. I suggest you remove it too.
