Microsoft releases Office 2003 SP3
Microsoft has released Service Pack 3 for Office 2003. If you haven't upgraded to Office 2007, there may be a few bug fixes and features in here for you. But beware, the update also shuts off a handful of features. For example, you won't be able to open PowerPoint files created before the release of PowerPoint 97. The reasoning is that these files are less secure, but if you happen to have any old files lying around on your desktop, you might want to convert them before upgrading Office 2003.
Service Pack 3 includes a whole slew of security updates, and fixes some compatibility issues with Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 7, and Office 2007. The Service Pack includes previously released updates including Service Packs 1 and 2.

The page on Microsoft.com about the file formats that are no longer valid does have instruction on how to modify your registry to re-enable the ability to open those older files.

Or you could just use OpenOffice
PeterSep 19th 2007 10:23AM
Tim - OpenOffice is a fine product. But let's be honest, if you need to collaborate and move documents back and forth with people using MS Office, OpenOffice isn't going to do the job. When you're working with other people, everyone needs to be using the same application.

Tim-
I'm tired of you and people like you trying to cram open office down my throat. It's not a solution to everything.

fixes for incompatibility with office 2007?
That means opening a 2007 file with 2003 right? Not problems that occur when both are installed? Why would you need both? I'm sticking with 2003 because I hate that stupid new interface (which im sure you can turn off somehow, but I'm too lazy to upgrade and figure it out anyway) but if i did upgrade i wouldn't keep the old one :/

After installing the service pack, I noticed that all of the office applications load faster than before.
I am also tired of hearing about open office.

Brent, yes I am having the same issue. I have a user that links an excel file table list to Access and it is blank now. Had to revert her to SP2. Any help with this is greatly appreciated as Access is something I have little experience with.

I've installed SP3 on a Win2k PC and now my Macros won't work. I get an Insufficent Memory error. When I unistall and re-install with only SP2 no problem.

When I installed SP3 on my Win2k PC, my Word macros no longer work. I receive an "Insufficient Memory" error.
If I uninstall an reinstall with only SP2, no problem.

We are also having Word Macro Problems. Although, sometimes they work, but 10 minutes later they may not work. No rhyme or reason.

Since I installed Office SP3, none of the links in any of my e-mails in Outlook 2003 work, and I get the
following message : "This operation has been cancelled dut to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
I have Windows XP SP2 Professional, on my 1 and only computer, and I am the administrator. The e-mail links in Outlook 2003, have always worked prior to the install of Office SP3, and I have never blocked access to these links at any time. Now they read "blocked: http://(e-mail site"). How can I unblock these?

My Access 2003 lookup list boxes were blank after installing Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3). I had to uninstall Office 2003 to remove SP3, then reinstall Office and SP2. Since most databases are critical I am wondering if Microsoft is addressing this issue. Does anyone know?

To all those who have their list boxes blanked out:
I have the same problem and have found that the field in my table was set up for "all caps" suing the > format command.
I removed this > formatting and the list boxes displayed - Office SP3 has a bug -no doubt!
If anyone knows of an office 2003 update for this please post for all of us.

After SP 3 was installed, I'm having an issue with Access 2003 saving another copy of my database with db1.mdb, db2.mdb, etc. besides the orginal copy. Does anyone have any idea how to stop it from saving so many copies of the database?
