Auto Shutdown turns off your PC when your download is done
It's 2 in the morning and you really want to go to bed, but you've got another 72 minutes before that game/video/other thing you're downloading finishes.Most of the time if you're in this situation you just leave your PC on all night, sending your energy bill up and killing the environment just a little bit more. If you use Firefox, there's a better way.
Auto Shutdown is a Firefox add-on that will shut down your computer when Firefox finishes downloading files. No, not every time you finish downloading a file. That would be silly. Instead, the application adds an option to your download menu and an icon to your status bar.
Unfortunately the application is Windows only for now, but the developers plan to port the add-on for Mac and Linux users soon.

you don't need a firefox add on to do that.
In command line there is a command called shutdown
to shut off your computer in 75 min here is what you would type in cmd
shutdown -s -t 4500
shutdown is the command, -s is to shut off the computer (you do restart or other options), -t is the time and 4500 is 4500 seconds. (annoying)
also if you start a shutdown and want to stop it type this into cmd
shutdown -a
(-a = abort)
this may be a little more complex than just using the extensions, but this works for when it is going to take a while to move files, or other reasons

feffrey: That's a great tip. But the problem with downloads is sometimes they'll be zipping along and Firefox will report that your download will be complete in 25 minutes. But then something happens and your connection slows down so it will actually take 2 hours.
You could just pad your shutdown time by an extra hour, but Auto Shutdown will make sure your download is complete before shutting off your PC.

that is what I do too, I add about 15 min longer after it has stabilized the dl speed.

Or you could just let your machine go to sleep/standby/hibernate when it's not being used.

If downloading is your main activity while you leave the computer unattended, you might want to try a download accelerator. I use Free Download Manager, it has an option to shut down after all downloads are done. Then you get the extra benefit of faster downloads (if the server you're downloading from allows multiple connections). I think most download accelerators support that feature too.
