I really don't see how the Archos compares - it isn't open source and doesn't allow you to add your own free software.

Re: @James, just FYI, Craig Hockenberry (on furbo.org) has profiled the iPhone using the toolchain and it's running throttled @ 400Mhz -- probably for battery life reasons.
And regarding the 770 -- please, please do NOT consider the 770. The product has been End-of-Lifed by Nokia. Yeah, you can get hardware support, but there'll be no Skype, no new Mozilla browser, no camera, no OS updates or bugfixes since late 2006. I migrated from the 770 to the N800 and the base performance boost alone is *absolutely* worth the difference in price.
