Actually tried downloading a Word template for Word 2007 (office prof 2007 legal running on Vista Home Premium legal). Got the "no validation key" message. It turns out that MS was trying to establish validation off of the Office Personal/Student trial copy that came with the computer. Quick uninstall and we're good to go.
