Keep your hard drive clean with Easy Duplicate Finder

So you've used WinDirStat to identify folders taking up the most space on your hard drive. But how do you know which files are safe to delete?
Easy Duplicate Finder is a free application that will scan your entire hard drive or specified folders to find identical files. If you've got thousands of MP3s or photos, Easy Duplicate Finder can save you hours of work tracking down files you've downloaded twice.
The program looks at more than just the file name. It also analyzes file size and other properties so that if you've got two identical files with separate names, Easy Duplicate Finder will find them and let you delete duplicate files while retaining the originals.
We found this application from a Lifehacker post, where someone was kind enough to leave a comment suggesting Mac users check out TidyUp, a similar application for OS X.

It isn't free. The website, amongst a clutter of offers, indicated the duplicate file software is a free TRIAL offer...just another program that has to be removed or sits dead on your computer after a few days of trial. To me there is a huge difference between "free" and "free trial." Almost all commercial software has a free trial offer--that doesn't make it free.

Correction: The duplicate finder software does appear to be free. It is just difficult to find on a very cluttered website with a lot of commercial offers of similar software.

I don't see any indication that this is a free trial. In fact, not only does the site describe it as free in several places, but there doesn't appear to be any way to pay, (although there is a donation option).
The download site does have quite a bit of advertising, including contextual ads from Google. It's possible that what you saw is an ad for a product with a similar name which does have a free trial download. This is one of the perils of contextual advertising.

There's a nice program, called Dup Detector which finds similar but not identical images, it might be interesting for you:

Unfortunately, they're close now, so they'll be no farther updates. Yet this program makes miracles :)

It's nice to see it has a standalone (portable) version but .. it's not a scratch on BeyondCompare -
