Windows XP SP3 leaked
Robin Hood was revered because he stole from the rich and gave to the poor. And while it's not quite the same thing, there isn't a whole lot of sympathy being thrown towards Microsoft when it was heard that a testing release of Windows XP SP3 was leaked and is floating around the internet now. Everyone loved watching Mel Gibson prove he's an idiot. Everyone loved watching Kramer lose his mind. And everyone loves when things don't go as planned for Microsoft. We love when people who seem to have everything together show that they don't. Plus this Windows leak is an hilarious slap in the face to Steven Sinofsky's little attempt at complete secrecy. It's so fitting that he'd be unsuccessful at keeping things secret, since he looks a bit like a really terrible magician (see picture).SP3 was given to a limited pool of testers in July, after being repeatedly delayed. It was originally planned to be release in 2005. Boy, did that ever go well. The leaked version of SP3 is not quite the finished product, or even a completed Beta, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming an incredibly popular torrent download. It comes in at around 340 Mb and can be found pretty much everywhere. But then again, you'd never download something illegally like this, would you?

I think you commenter's are the ones who should ease up, they own the web space let them publish it however the hell they want to. As soon as you own stock in their company is when you can tell them all that.

Regardless of whether or not microsoft sucks, it obviously didn't occur to this guy to pass on some truly useful information - what's actually in this service pack????

worst written article ever. I think the author suffers from either ADHD, mild dementia, or is just plain stupid. He went from Robin Hood to Mel Gibson and somehow connected that to Microsoft.
downloadsquad sucks forever because of this.

My friend tested SP3 and its COMPLETELY STABLE. Amazing work from Microsoft. M's up L's down.

I'll wait for Windows XP SP 3 to come out onto the Microsoft Update website. Until then, I'm in no particular hurry to upgrade from Windows XP SP 2.

"Has anyone of the microsoft defendants ever considered the possibility that micrsoft truly does suck?"
Have you considered the possibility of leaving mommy's basement and going to the beach to get some sunlight?
Micrsoft isn't any more sucky or great than the next big company in the world of tech.
I am not even against the occassional Microsoft bashing, but I am seeing more persistent and embittered anti-Microsoft bashing and bias on this website ever since the introduction of Vista.
Compare and contrast with the cyber-fellation of Apple with the new Mac and iPhone. Jesus, are you people bankrolled by Apple or something?
If Apple or Linux got the same criticism over the course of a year as what Microsoft gets in the course of a half-week here, the Internet would have one giant kernal panic, shut down, and get sucked into a black hole.

No problems running it on my laptop. works fine.

I was a beta tester for SP2 and that worked out alright for me (no hassles re: updating to the final SP2), but I wouldn't touch the SP3 version that's out there now. Beta IE7's cause 2 reinstalls, so I'm a bit more careful than before.
Regarding the story's slant, I don't think it helped the article at all.

Wow. And besides all the MS bashing, you couldn't give any details on what's actually in SP3?
I don't mind if blogs want to differentiate themselves from other media outlets, but don't come bitching when, for some particular reason, people don't consider you "real" journalists.

I agree with #45. "Has anyone of the microsoft defendants ever considered the possibility that micrsoft truly does suck?" Have you ever considered moving out of your mom's house? I'm in NO WAY a Microsoft fanboy. There seems to be the idea going around lately that if you don't hate Microsoft, you're a Microsoft fanboy. Whatever. It's bloggers like this Peter White that I hate. Making a simple joke out of something is one thing, but you don't have to make your whole blog about anti-Microsoft. He gave NO USEFUL INFORMATION IN THE WHOLE BLOG about what the updates in SP3 where. If downloadsquad.com (which I'm not coming to again) doesn't look for a new blogger, they're in trouble.

Dear Download Squad,
Please stop bashing MS for no real reason. It used to be all the rage to hate them for being evil, but you seem to be trying to jump on board after the train has left...
Unlike some comments above mine, I wouldn't unsubscribe, because you guys have tons of great posts that I love to read. However because of the abundance of bad posts as well, I have been forced to AideRSS you... Thus, I now get 33% of your posts, and only the ones that people like.
Cheers,
Geoff

I agree with all this annoyance at Microsoft bashing. I have always been a little weary to return to Download Squad because of this bias. It has been noticeable ever since I first starting coming here (at least several months ago). I am quite fond of Microsoft, as they do do some good stuff once in a while. (I am not wholehearted biased in favour of MS, though. I can conceed that Windows and IE have their problems.)
If Microsoft were to have screwed up again, like perhaps on the subject of DRM, then some bashing might be suitable. But when Microsoft is actually being wrong done by, having their software stolen (to put it bluntly), you attack them as though they have done something wrong? And you make it sound like this happening will make all the anti-Microsoft fanboys sing and dance?! SP3 was leaked. Who cares? Nothing to get excited about, for both a pro- or anti- MS person.
I know that this site is not controlled by me and that its writers can say whatever they like, but I come here for news and my presence helps pay the bills through advertisements. I'm sure others will probably feel the same way. I come here for news. Is that a bad idea? Should I come here for opinions (which quite often differ from mine) and look elsewhere for unbias news?
All I am saying is why not keep the bashing to times when MS does something wrong or angering?
danAug 12th 2007 11:00PM
what a crappy article. why not put some content in the article besides microsoft hate? for starters, what changes are there?
JudgeAug 13th 2007 8:09PM
For all you folks complaining about him not being biased, I didnt realize free thought and opinion's were against the law on blogs. He says what he wants, so F you if you dont like it. You can think and say what you want and so can he.

I don't understand any of this..Windows update has been prompting me to install SP3 for at least the last 9 months. What leak are they talking about? If SP3 hasn't been released yet how come it comes up on win update?
