That's actually not true, the bottom 4 buttons are the "must have" buttons - phone, messages, internet, media - and you switch pages by swiping your finger across the screen. The whole project is aimed at being very gesture-oriented like that. Also (and this is an update since the article was written), the official name for the interface is now "FreeStyl", because, well, it frees you from the stylus.
