Adobe Digital Editions eBook reader released

Adobe Digital Editions
Reading electronic books on your computer can be an exercise in futility. Computer screens aren't really designed to display text in a the same way as a book, and it's hard to find a single application capable of handling all the eBook formats you might want (PDF, HTML, TXT, PRC, LIT, RB, and the list goes on).

While Adobe's new Digital Editions eBook reader doesn't solve the latter problem, it is a slick new solution for reading PDF, Flash, and XML files. It has a much smaller footprint than Adobe Reader and is designed specifically for reading books.

You can make bookmarks, add text notes, and change font sizes with ease. There also seem to be about a dozen ways to flip pages (with the up and down, right or left keys on your keyboard, the scrollwheel on your mouse, or the scrollbar on the side of the page).

Digital Editions is currently available for Mac and PC, with a Linux beta due out later this year. It'd be nice to see Adobe make a mobile version for Windows Mobile and Palm devices. While there's an Adobe Reader client for Windows Mobile it's clunky and slow.
