GreatDB - a handy website information tool
Sometimes you just need to know a little bit more information about the site you're looking at. Maybe you're trying to decide if it's trustworthy, or maybe you're just a little bit (or too) curious. Well in any event, if you're looking to snoop, check out GreatDB. Punching in a URL into GreatDB will bring back most of the following information: Whois, Site Age, Blacklisting Status, Language, Web Host, Ping Time, Pagerank, Alexa Rank, Backlinks, Search Engine Indexes, DMOZ Listings, Wayback Entries, Top 5 Keywords, Domain Extension Availability, and a Preview Image. Not bad considering all it takes is about 20 seconds of your time.
Probably the creepiest data point on the list is web host, which could be used nefariously to prey on hosting companies with weak security. But everything on the list is information that is publicly available if you know where to look, so it's hard to take issue with any of them.

Off topic question.
A couple of years back (Perhaps 3 yrs back), I read a positive review of gobinder as a PIM tool. Actually did buy that as well.
However, after trying out Onenote power toys, the free evernote app etc., had discontinued using gobinder for more than a year now.
Would like to have your comments on what Gobinder is upto nowadays and how it compares vis-a-vis one-note and other competing products that have hit the market nowadays.
Also a great find thanks to you is notelens. My defacto information bank (though I dont use the outlook sync so much). Unfortunately, has been made a made freeware and almost nil development. A few missing reatures like "scan of the disc (or my documents folder) to aggregate all txt files", auto detection and indexing of any new text file saved or copied (externally) into the notelens store folder, absence of tree heirarchy of folders" are missing. Also in my wishlist is the need to name the txt file with the first line of the txt file rather than some vague sequential numbering.
Nevertheless notelens is still a great tool because (a) At times when the main PIM application is not open, just open notepad, capture data and save as text file = to integrate in notelens later (b) txt files are easily indexed by all DTS engines (c) Sync with outlook for whose who care for this (d) as lightweight as a PIM can get and most important of all (c) format is future proof. I dont have to commit to a properietary format like in Gobinder.
Your take Marc? Any other alternative to notelens? Is xml future proof (evernote)? Can Zoot do a notelens role?

I opened up the website in firefox, gave a url ... I soon as I pressed submit, it hanged my firefox for more than a minute, and didn't give any information after that.
I don't think the website deserves a +ve review at this point. Instead, there should be a big warning "It hangs your browser"

Trying in IE: "This tool does not currently support Internet Explorer as it is not standard compliant." OK, going to Firefox.. Not very much information, and no Alexa rank for google.com??
