Adobe CS3 pricing, high as usual
CS3 pricing is out, and it looks a bit high! Amazon might have let the cat out of the bag a little early when it comes to the not yet released Adobe CS3 applications. Officially CS3 is due out on March 27th, but Amazon accidentally flipped the switch to show the pricing of the newly designed creative suite a day earlier.
The pricing structure looks like this:
- Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Web Premium - $1599
- Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Master Collection - $2499
- Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Production Premium - $1199
- Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Design Premium - $1599
DLS wants to know - If you are dishing out and buying into the new CS3, which version do you have your sights set on?

so i wonder what the difference is with the photoshop cs3 and photoshop cs3 extended? i think design premium is good for lots of people, or web premium if you don't need indesign and need contribute & fireworks.

But have you seen it? we watched some of the product demos at a release party at the new orleans adobe user group last night and the intergration is amazing
imagine imported a psd to flash and keeping the layers and defining some layers as movie clips or text or what ever, imagine copy pasting movement (not a clip or image but the movement that is applied to it) from one movie to another. They say you could build a portfolio of movements separate from your image portfolio... wow plus you can copy paste images from a selection in a psd to a spot on a webpage in dreamweaver and have the save for web dialog automatically come up... this is a true time saver and the reason why adobe and macromedia is the perfect match...now i just need 1600 for the web package

Mike - ya, i got to see some demos last year of stuff they were working on.. pretty amazing. still pricey though.

Mike, that's the kind of integration they could have had years ago with GoLive. But it's nice to see Adobe stepping up to the plate finally.
For production work, that kind of seamless workflow is gold. While the costs are rather high, for what you're getting this is really in line with what you pay for high-end 3d apps. And frankly, you can do "more" with the Adobe flow.

This kind of pricing is ludicrous. If they honestly want people to pay for their products, they should charge 1/10th of what they do now.
Hell, even their "educational" titles are usually around 1/2 the price -- and that's still way too much for a student.
If anything they should at least offer CS1 or CS2 at an extreme price cut.

Well if you check out all the programs, you get its not a bad deal at all, and is just worth it with all the integration features... really loving this adobe serie generation :D

The trick is to get caught up young with Adobe, by which I mean to buy a student copy of a CS package ($200 for CS2 Premium when I bought it.)
As it stands I'm pining for the Design Standard ($400 upgrade) or Premium ($600 upgrade), and I'd really prefer the Premium. Adding Flash and Dreamweaver would be much-welcomed, and easily justifies bumping it $200 for them.
I partially agree with other posters, the entry price for a full pack is a bit high, but considering the fact that these are intended as professional-level applications and the fact that the Standard packs are lower... it doesn't seem too outrageous to me.

It's a lot of software for your money, but the high price will keep most users dipping into torrents rather than into their pockets.
And I won't pretend to fully understand the economics at work here, but surely if you have 10,000 users paying $2,499, dropping the price to $999 would net you perhaps three times the sales? The revenue from 30,000 users is just as much. You then have three times the number of people to hit with special deals, upgrade offers, and so on, from now until the end of time.
In short, I really don't understand why Adobe continues to price so many of its active users out of genuine software. On the face of it, it seems pretty stupid.

It would be nice if they would do an a la carte system so we could choose just what we want but still get bundle pricing.

I think this software is awsome. I'm drooling all over it, especially photshop and illustrator. If you haven't, go check out the deets on the software. I think its well worth the cost of entry. This is not meant to be for the everyday user, so of course they will not price it like that. These are realy powerful tools and I think are priced reasonably.
Think about it this way, everyone wants to drive a lamborghini, but it does not mean lambo should price their car to $30,000. At least we have an option to pay an upgrade price.
