Happy Birthday! Unlimited email storage from Yahoo!
We got the scoop on some very special Yahoo news! Yahoo Mail will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary shortly, and they REALLY want to celebrate. Everyone that has a Yahoo mail account will be offered unlimited email storage starting May 2007, rolling out to all users over a couple of months. The current version of Yahoo Mail started out in 1997 when they acquired RocketMail and offered users a mere 4MB of email storage. Hmm, what could you fit in there now? Let's just say not much by today's standards. By 2005 the email capacity reached 100MB, then on to 1GB where it sits at today.
Will this groundbreaking new move from Yahoo make a few of the main free email providers like Google and Microsoft wonder how many users will switch over? Imagine never deleting emails again, storing countless mp3's, and data backups all in your Yahoo email account.

This is good news for us, because Google will probably answer in short time by offering unlimited space.

My AOL mail says 2 GB storage. Plus, who the hell uses AOL mail anyways?

I like that each company is trying to 1 up each other, but the unlimited storage thing is not that big of a deal. How about unlimited file size attachments instead so I can use my email account as a quick and easy ftp service?
The problem with the new Yahoo Mail is that is loads so frickin slow even on a super fast connection. Then on top of that, if you want to look at some old messages you have to wait for those to be loaded to.
Gmail is still the best because of the how it groups the same emails together.
I noticed Windows Live Mail was updated a few days ago and the site loads instantly now and they cleaned up the interface a little bit. There is still way to much empty space at the top and the menu bar still feels cluttered.
My order Gmail, Live Mail, then Yahoo Mail.

Now that Yahoo is unlimited in mailbox size, dont be limited by the attachment 10MB file size, you can send any file with any file size to your email account with a simple right click and send file (including yahoo). The freeware will automatically split and merge the file. You can also send whole folders to your email account as it will zip them up. The software is called Backup To EMail and you can download it from http://emailer.zapto.org
