Context Search: Firefox add-on update
Yesterday I did the daily Firefox add-on about SearchWith, a great little extension that requires you, the user, to go to a site, do a search and try and figure out how to put the url into the options to make it work. Sounds confusing, doesn't it? I was a little hesitant to post about SearchWith, because it took me a little while to get it up and running, but it was all worth it though, because John was kind enough to suggest Context Search in the comments.If you missed the post yesterday, I was looking for a Firefox add-on that would allow me to highlight some text, right-click on it to bring up a shortcut menu and pick a search engine to search for that highlighted text. What Context Search does is just that.
All you have to do is highlight your text, right-click on it > Search for > then pick your engine that you wish to do the searching with. It's really just the same thing SearchWith does, only it is extremely easier and less confusing to add more engines. In order to add an engine, just go to the mozdev site or the search engine area of the Mozilla add-on site and add any engine that you want. These engines that you are adding is what Context Search uses to search your highlighted text for. Your results will also open up in a new tab or window as well. Though not all of the sites you wish to search will be on the mozdev/add-on site, but you are able to request more through the mozdev site. This is a great extension and will get a lot of use from me. Thanks John!

Enters SmartSearch, which not only uses the Mycroft-Plugins but any Firefox quicksearch (or "keyword search) from your bookmarks:

Thanks Ryan for the credit on this one. Just wanted to make sure that people knew that there are many more search engines than just those top 25 shown on the main page. There are thousands of preprogrammed search engine plug-ins that you can add to Firefox (and therefore Context Search menu) via the below link:

Just do a search for your favorite sites, or look through all the categories below. Very popular sites may have more than one, or even too many choices. Look for green check marks for plugins that have been verified via the 'judge it' links.

Unfortunately, Firefox says Context Search is not compatible with FF 2.0.0.1

@LeeH
I have 2.0.0.1 and got Context Search up and running. Was the error code that you got the one that someone would normally get for an extension that is not supported by your browser version?

@John
Thanks for that correction John. I updated the mozdev link that I did in the post to reflect the one you just gave. Thank again!

Yes, Ryan. That's how it appears in the Tools > Add-ons menu (Context Search is not compatible with FF 2.0.0.1)

FYI - I am running Firefox 2.0.0.1 on Windows XP SP2, and my Context Search runs fine, and when clicked in the add ons list, it does not report any incompatibility. Not sure why it would happen just for some. Are the users getting the incompatible message running Firefox on Mac OSX or Linux by chance?

FYI - I checked a Macintosh OSX version 10.3.9 machine today at work, and it is running Firefox 2.0.0.1 and Context Search without complaint as well. Strange that anyone is getting any warnings.
