Anyone have Vista running?
Are you running Vista? Which version are you running? Do you like it? I just bought a new PC with Vista pre-loaded, and it's nice. It's not completely perfect but, not completely sucky either, which in my mind computes to "just right."
For anyone who doesn't yet have Vista, but want to know about the ins and outs, there are a lot of new features, yet not a ton of truly "new" features. In an attempt to find out what Vista works like and plays like, I will be writing a bunch of Vista-related stuff over the coming weeks.
There are more improved features in Vista than new. The good news is that many of the "new" features are old ideas, finally done well.
So far, a few of my favorites:

So far, a few of my favorites:
- The death of the full blown, multi-level hierarchical start menu in favor of the one-paned integrated menu and search feature. Slick.
- The unabashed slaying of the age old "My" folders. No more nonsense. I love the new structure, which features a Users folder, then has documents, videos, pictures in sub folders, which seems closer to the way a human sees anyway.
- Window Switcher is dead-sexy (also called Flip3D). I will be wearing out this feature in coming days.
- I love the new very "mac-like" sidebar (taskbar) on all windows that make everything you do easy, seeing the directory structure you are working with in an easy to use format and location. It makes everything easier.

Re: Re: FPS Issues
Typical of my luck. I've bought another video card and a new HD for a separate XP reinstall and it looks like nVidia has released a new set of drivers today:

I'll keep you all posted.

Have had Vista Ultimate for more than a week, now. From my evaluation, Microsoft has done very well. I have one game that doesn't work (Star Wars Battlefront II) which is keeping me from dumping XP entirely, but I'm close. Don't ask why, but for some reason I really like to use the built-in applications with each OS, and the trio of Internet Explorer, Windows Mail, and Windows Calendar is wonderful, as are the media applications. Aero is also a pleasure to look at, as well as being just as fast if not faster than Luna on XP. In fact, Vista feels slightly faster than XP, but that may be because Vista is better equipped to make use of my Radeon x850 and my 2.5 GBs of RAM to speed up the system.
I really can't wait for the Aero-designed applications to start coming out so we can really see what Vista can do.

I have just running Windows Vista Ultimate in a Athlon XP / 1 GB of RAM / ATI RADEON 320M IGP 128Mb(ShM)/ notebook, but it doesn't work very well. First of all, there's no video drivers for my card, so I run it on a 1024x768 emulated video mode. With Win XP all goes OK with accelerated graphics. I tried to put the XP drivers... but no success. Also, I've got a Wireless PCMCIA Card (DLink) and after trying different versions of the driver I could make it work. There's too many: -Graphical effects (it's a nosense)
-Working Processes and services in the background, fetching information and files...
In the other way, as administrator of the machine I have to say 'Yes' or 'OK' to the several dialog boxes, everytime I want to add something, hardware or software... too much time.
My opinion: Too much hardware requirements for the everyday work. Today you have to pay 900€ (I'm European) for a nice "full power" machine running XP; although, your expense for a Vista based "full power" machine, you have to pay about 1400€. For me... no way:I'm going back to XP. Greetings.

I've been using vista ultimate for a month now. When it comes to games that you think are performing much less compared to XP before, all you do is go to start > control panel > performance information and tools then on its side panel...open adjust visual effects.
this will prompt up a window then press continue. then uncheck the box that says Enable Desktop Composition...that's about it.
This will disable your window transparency. But this will make your games and apps run like they used to in XP. and if you want your transparency back...just tick that box again and press OK.
Vista is a great new OS. It just needs more work and of course getting rid of those bugs will be a much bigger help for all users.
