Office 2007 voted most innovative product of 2006
Office 2007 is actually amazing. It is light-years beyond the last iteration of Office, which took four years, but hey, at least it is done right? Its new features and interesting Ribbon have garnered much praise and criticism alike. PC World has named it the most innovative product of the year (last year, 2006). "Most Innovative" can sometimes be code for weird and revolutionary, but not in a good way sometimes. I don't think that is the case here. As Marc says, power users may not like the Ribbon (I didn't at first) and may never see the light. Despite my affinity for being contrary just because, I have to agree with PC world here. I do like what they've done with the place. Office 2007 (I prefer the old name) really is quite amazing. If you haven't played with it, you'll notice a lot of new features and eye-catching effects that actually enhance not detract from the document creation process. Microsoft, I think you may have hit a home run this time, kudos![Via Office Evolution]

I have to say that I also find Office 2007 to be a huge improvement in the entire creation process. I cant single out one feature to proclaim as my favorite.
With 2007 you have real time preview of formatting before you apply it. Now thats productive. I also like the themes and styles. My doc's have never look so clean and professional with minimal effort.
Also tasks such as creating a TOC with links got a whole lot easier. The 'Insert' tab has everything I need and again the real time preview for headers and such is a pleasure.

Office 2007 is extremely innovative in that MS is taking advantage of the power of today's computers to make the software better for users. Four years ago they couldn't have done in-place style previews and things like that.
They are making better use of the available technology rather than just retooling the current list of features.
Like it or not, it is innovative and a great show of what today's machines are capable of.

Wow ! Ryan, what a change since your pitiful rant against the ribbon and office desktop apps ("a dead breed", sic), just 3 weeks ago (www.downloadsquad.com/2006/12/22/the-office-2007-ribbon-only-goes-so-far) !!

I love the ribbon, I just think they should have integrated it with all the office apps. If you'll notice, Microsoft's office integration and the ribbon itself are two different things. Thanks for the thoughts.

So it has been voted.. well.. i haven't. I think its a bit overambitious if something is called "the big thing of blablablabla".. For me Office 2007 is just on ugly piece of software. The blue is highly annoying. The usability is far from quick and elegant and the new features are incomplete and not well thought out. like the rss feature for example.. They should have never changed the interface and work more on the intern.

i think office 2007 is a cartoony looking piece of garbage, if i ran an office, i would not want anybody using it!

I never grew to like Office 2007 despite beta testing it throughout 2006. I hate the ribbon. It's 47 pixels fatter than the old toolbar (http://www.thegsblog.com/?p=113). Microsoft all but killed keyboard shortcuts, as an extra step has been added to almost every keyboard shortcut. In the UI redesign, the alternative to have the Ribbon as a sidebar would have been better given new letterbox 16:9 aspect monitors. Citations are unfinished business in Word 2007, so STUDENTS BE WARNED: several of the formats are incorrect or nonexistent for multiple sources; and while sources are saved as XML, Word 2007's documentation styles are XSLTs, making it incredibly difficult for anyone to create their own, e.g., a university department or in-house publishing division.
