OS X-compatible Yahoo! Music video player released as beta
Yahoo!'s corporate blog, Yodel Anecdotal, announced the availability of a new Yahoo! Music video player. This is a beta release and they have put up a slick user feedback mechanism for you to use in telling them how to make it better and what features rock (pardon the pun). From the well-prepared tutorial the new features are:
- Video Lineup: control the videos you want to watch! Create a customized video lineup, arrange and reorganize videos, monitor upcoming selections, and create your own session playlist.
- Easy video search: from within the video player, instantly find videos by searching for your favorite artists or video titles.
- Browse by category: get customized recommendations based on your video ratings, or choose from recommendations by category-Top 100, exclusive Nissan Live Sets, videos you've recently watched, and more!
- All new design: everything at your fingertips! Enhanced video player controls, simplified video search, and easier ways to browse content-all in one place, within one interface.
- Mac Compatible: now available for Macintosh OS X.
I especially like the ability to locate my choices (which aren't mainstream these days). The recommendations list is wonderful, especially if you have rated groups, albums and genres so your favorites and likely new favorites are listed. Missing is a full screen or larger video window (at least within Firefox).
This player is not a desktop application but instead runs in your browser (yes, even in Firefox). That's nice. There's an obnoxious advertisement video between every song. That's too frequent for my tolerance level. I'm okay with the panel ads on the player though.

I didn't even know about this for Windows let alone Mac.
Thanks.
Now they need to add this to the Yahoo Music Engine.

Funny, I just got done watching a video there about 12 seconds ago
I had opened the site expecting to do some hacking to get to play the stream on VLC mac, and it actually just worked.
Amazing

Well this sucks. "Content is not available in certain areas. Way to go, Yahoo! Thanks for blocking Puerto Rico's Mac users out of your service once more. Honestly.

What is truly amazing, however, is the fact that you still can't play audio from Yahoo! Music on a Mac. There isn't any technical reason why it can't work (they are using an old version of Windows Media).
Not sure why our pals at Yahoo! hate the Mac, but historically, their support for Macs has been abysmal at best.

Another option is the LyFox widget or standalone player (or PHP player) available at FernyB's website. He also has a player/downloader for AOL videos.
