The makers of AutoCAD are
giving away their software to students. If you have a university-issued email address, you can register with the AutoDesk student site, which gains you access to free downloads of AutoDesk software, as a student. Also on the site is a job search to help students find good gigs. When I tried to sign up with my university email, my school was apparently not a big enough school to be listed in their database, so they will get back to me within 3 business days. Fine, but my school is a fairly well recognized one. Anyway, the rumor is that there are many titles you can get as a student from the site as well as self-paced tutorials. Sounds good, if I could only get into it. Ho-hum.

Ryan, your account has already been approved and we look forward to you joining the community! To ensure the community stays a focused educational resource for students and faculty we have a procedure in place to confirm that people joining the community are actually students or faculty. The first time a student/faculty member joins the site from a new university it is necessary for us to authenticate the university. Once that university is approved, all future students from that university will be automatically approved when they register. Thanks for your patience!

As an industrial design student, I was extremely excited when AliasStudio was added to the list of "free" software for students.
However, after downloading, the PLE watermark is plastered all over the screen, and files created in the "student" version of the program cannot be opened in the normal version. So how is this any different than the PLE version of AliasStudio, which is available to anyone?
I love the idea, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's right say that students are getting free software when it's the same crippled demo that anyone can download.

Be careful with the software guys. Autodesk infectiously watermarks ANYTHING created/touched by their education software. I say infects because if a drawing created in a commercial license of AutoCAD for example, is opened in the EDU. software, it is forever watermarked. If even one line is copied or inserted from an EDU. marked file the recipent file is also watermarked even if it is done in a commercial license file.
It may be ok to use while learning the software, do not bring it or any of its files to work otherwise you will have a costly to fix problem printing or publishing your drawings.

I was turned down because you said that I wasn't a student or maybe my University wasn't big enough. I attend one the largest University in the US and I have been a student for 1 year now. I don't know where you got your information from but you need to reinvestigate it. I really am interested in using your software. I have literally been on my computer three days trying to use your trial software. Good luck to anyone that is trying to become a member. Hope you don't have as much trouble as I have been having.
