Google Web Toolkit goes open source

google web toolkitGoogle has released their open source Java software development framework that they use to make AJAX application like Google Maps and Gmail. The Google Web Toolkit software is aimed at developers who "don't speak browser quirks". The Google Web Toolkit will alleviate headaches and errors brought on by tedious application testing, and switching to and running in different browsers and platforms.

The Google Web Toolkit features include:
  • Dynamic reusable UI components
  • Really simple RPC
  • Browser history management
  • Real debugging
  • Browser compatible
  • JUnit integration
  • Internalization
  • Interoperability and fine grained control
  • Completely open source
In all, Google is trying to make it a lot easier for developers and non developers to get their ideas into motion and reality. There are a number of example toolkit projects on the site, mostly comprised of UI widgets. If any DLS reader comes up with a Google Web Toolkit project, we would love to check it out!
