The Linux Equivalent Project

Linux Equivalent ProjectSay you've just hopped on the bandwagon and installed Linux, only to find that you favorite program isn't cross-platform and doesn't run too well under WINE. Enter the Linux Equivalent Project. Though it sounds grandiose, it's really just a simple--but very handy--guide to Linux apps that are "equivalent" to popular Windows programs. I put equivalent in scare quotes because we all know that many Windows apps have no true Linux equivalent (and vice versa, for that matter), but a recommended alternative is better than nothing. So, want an Adobe Premier alternative? Try Kino or Cinelerra. FrontPage? Try Quanta Plus. You get the idea. If you're thinking of making the switch, keep this one in your bookmarks.
