Apple's Japanese Mac ads
Imagine you were unexpectedly thrust into a world where those same cute Mac-and-PC ads were on TV, but they were in a language you couldn't understand!* That world is, well, Japan, and those ads are right over here. They're just like the American ads we're used to, except with two funny Japanese dudes, and they're in Japanese. You can check out the ads in their full-resolution glory at Apple Japan, or you can just look below, where low-res but English-subtitled versions away.
Funny, but it's just not the same without our national treasure John Hodgman. You can find the other two ads after the jump.

every time I see apple advertisments I wonder: does apple really think that insulting PC users as stupid/boring/etc. will seriously make them want to switch to Mac?
Do they really think that the prospective of being a hipper person will make people buy their products?
well, considering that the individualisation of society is progressing more and more, I would guess that such ads are rather counterproductive. the more probable reaction by people would be along the lines of "so all the wannabes use mac? well, look at how individual I am: I use a PC, I am intelligent enough to use it, and I even saved money."

Yes, I believe they do. That's the approach they've been taking since 1984.

Can't honestly see that happening. The only people likely to think like that would already have made their choice. Ads tend to target the fence sitting undecided, and as buying a computer means buying a PC with Windows to most people, Apple's strategy is probably quite effective.

These guys are the comedy duo Rahmens -- you may have seen them in the hilarious Japan Culture Lab "Sushi" video:

I disagree. I don't think the relevant question is which of the two products actually SELL more, but rather on how much public space the products occupy.
And while PCs are sympathetically humble, Macs are fucking show-offs.
