Listen to podcasts on your cell phone--or any phone
Podlinez wants to take the "pod" out of podcasting. The service went live just a few days ago, allowing you to listen to podcasts without downloading them, and without an internet connection. All you have to do is dial a phone number to listen to the podcast of your choice. Here's how it works: You take the feed for any podcast and type it in to the box at Podlinez. If the feed is in their directory, a phone number will pop up. If not, Podlinez will allow you to dedicate a phone number to that podcast. After waiting a few moments, you can dial that number from any phone and listen to the podcast. You can skip forward by hitting the * button on your phone, and backward by hitting the # button.
As Michael Arrington at TechCrunch points out, there are several other services available that allow you to listen to podcasts on a phone. Fonpods, for example, has just one number to dial, and then lets you choose from various podcasts. I found it much more difficult to navigate, but if you don't want to program a bunch of podcast phone numbers into your cell phone, this Fonpod might be a handy one-stop shop for when you're bored and stuck watching CNN at the airport. And there's also VoiceIndigo, which requires you to install software on your phone.
I've just spent the last half hour using Podlinez to listen to podcasts through SkypeOut. This could be one of the geekiest things I've done in... well, minutes. If you want to check out the service, you can listen to my interview with ReplayTV General Manager Bill Loewenthal on our sister site PVR Wire's podcast by dialing +1 (650) 644-1949.

It's very strange listening to They Might Be Giants' podcast--(650) 644-1950--on my phone, but with Dial-a-Song out of commission it's very comforting, too.
