MusicForMe cracks AllOfMP3's MusicForMasses DRM
Last week I reported on MusicForMasses, a new program from questionable Russian online music retailer AllOfMP3 that lets you download and listen to every song in their expansive library for free, provide you use their very limited Windows player that requires a net connection. Well, as I predicted in that post, it didn't take long for someone to figure out how to get around MusicForMasses' DRM. The cheekily-named MusicForMe is a program that strips out whatever protections AllOfMP3 is using on its free MP3s and turns them into plain old MP3 files that you can play in the player of your choice. Now, given that AllOfMP3 is of questionable legality in the first place, using MusicForMe is undoubtedly all kinds of illegal, not to mention of entirely unknown origin and infested with who knows what, so under no circumstances do I recommend that you download it from this link. I did try it out myself, though--in the name of science, of course--and it seems to have worked flawlessly. One caveat is that the resulting files have names like "00E117A8.mp3," but their ID3 tags are intact and accurate, so an MP3-renaming program should make short work of them. Seriously, though, MusicForMe is probably totally illegal and possibly dangerous, so use it at your own, not insignificant, risk.
[Thanks, Josh!]
Update: As a number of readers have point out, the original download link is busted. The author has released an updated version of MusicForMe, which includes the MusicForMasses program. Reader Josh says that this program does the same thing as MusicForMe, but works better. I haven't tested either program, much less screened them for viruses, so as always use at your own risk and don't blame me if things go south.

I can tell you that allofmp3 has figured out that everyone is trying to crack the songs. When you install the current version and open it up, you will have no problems. As soon as you overwrite the files with the new ones to circumvent the DRM, it recognizes the new files in place, and you are then prompted to download "an essential update." If you remove the files, the "essential update" notification goes away. Hmmmmmmm

that is interesting. i will test this and try to modify the old version to make the "update notice" go away
i will post my results within the next few days

not working for me anymore, it always updates to 0.65 and both hacks seem not to work anymore. Any updates/suggestions?

I have probably found a solution. I am currently experimenting with an unpatched version of Musicfor MAsses. My Idea is to open MFM, an then overwrite the already loaded code in memory, so the crack is applied after starting mfm. This works in the first time, but it makes mfm unstable and can sometimes scree up the whole system. I´m not starting with firewalls that monitor memory leak breaks

@suRRendeR
What about the version string Approach? It didnt work
out, did it?
On first views this position seems a good point to start
.text:0040DF00 mov eax, 51EB851Fh
;-)

i did not have the idea to replace the version string. btw a solution that came up to my mind right a minute ago was what if we could use the mfm engine as a backend to write our own decoder
this would allow a more comfortable converter usable in batch mode.

Anyone tried TotalRecorder?
It will have to record in realtime, but it's better than nothing - and it's lossless.
WilliWuffNov 1st 2006 8:16AM
Where is there a driver as replacement to the soundcard, for direct storing of the wav data?
xorianNov 2nd 2006 1:38PM
@72
Wow, wouldn't that suck if it weren't "lossless"? It's already 128kbps!
By the way, recording the music is really not an option. It's way too inconvenient and time-consuming!

How did they ever come to the conclusion that this would be a good idea? You can't even play the music if you can't get connected. And I can't get connected. >:(

I downloaded the FMOD hack and am unable to get it to work. I replaced the FMOD.DLL in the musicformasses directory with the one from the hack .RAR and played an MP3x file. It played the file just fine but did not output it to any directory (especially not the one where the MP3X file was located).
I'm using MusicForMasses version 66alpha (it mandatory auto-upgraded from version .53 to that version on first run)
Any tips?

yes record companys get most of the profit,but the little musicians get is alot smaller by people downloading illegal stuff.if your an artist and you put your heart and soul into something,i mean you digg wayy deeper than the average person to pull something out of you thats buried deep inside,if you do all of that you deserve to be compensated for what you do.
its just like someone making mp3 players,say ipod,they make that and you cannot copy it or make the same thing and sell it or give it away because its illegal.just because music is in the air basically does not mean its any different.
i guess if people want less quality artists then they should not care and keep downloading illegally because making money is a driving force for good musicians.if they cant make money at it they will just do it as a hobby and we all miss out.
whats 10-15 bucks anyway for music that enhances our lives as much as it does,ill tell you what i would pay alot more for my favorite cds.they money it costs is wayy cheap compared to the enhancments it provides our lives,shallow people wihtout music in their souls would have no clue what im saying and they are the ones who dont care about anything or anyone but themselves and will make excuses up for everything they do illegal or not!!
