What Anti-Virus software do you use? McAfee, Symantec, or one of the wide-spread commercially available AV programs? Perhaps you are a bit more savvy and you use something else, Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender, Windows Defender, or F-Secure. If you use
AVG Free Edition (which includes an email scanner and free daily virus definition updates), a new upgrade is out now, version 7.5, which is a major update to the very-good AV system brought to you by Grisoft. I've been using AVG and have had my parents, friends, and family using AVG for several years now. I find that it has everything I want, and not much I don't want. If you need a new AV client or a good one that installs quick and updates itself for someone you know (like grandma), AVG really isn't bad. If you have a free Anti-Virus client you like better than AVG, I would love to find out why.

I will stick to NOD32 thanks, but i parents computer uses AVG, so i will tell then of the new update.

AVG should pay me for the amount of computers I've installed it on.
Good program.
Although AVG came in low in that test, this is a big upgrade and maybe it'll improve AVG's ranking.
I've heard AVS is good though.

Until a virus precipitated crash about 10 months ago I was a confirmed Norton guy. Since then I've switched to Avast and never had a problem. Avast is free, updates everyday, looks great and is well designed for both "power" and "new" users.

I had a problem with Avast thou Jonathan.. It seems to hog too much mem..
I use AVG on my whole families PCs.. And I recommend it to ppl on a daily basis (if there looking for a free AV..

I was a Norton's advocate years ago and in recent times have given them a wide birth because:
It slows down the computer more than most AVs.
It puts a million entries in the registry.
It's hard to uninstall if you can't find your cd.
It doesn't work very well, especially for trojans.
It has a poor track record with spyware.
It ignored the Sony Rootkit at Sony's behest.
AVG or any non mainstream alternative are your friend.
On my pc is AVG, and I try to use a mac for anything important.

I used AVG, but it didn't seem to prevent viruses, only find them, and then was not able to remove them. Personally I use NOD32, but I recommend Avast to all my friends, plus its free.
AntiVir is also free, and pretty good, and ClamAV is pretty neat and open source.

I used to use Norton, but it did more bad than good. But my friend has Norton, and he says it works great for him.
I prefer avast as well. But just out of curiosity, how much memory does AVG use? And what about avast? Anyone know?

I've been a computer consultant for home users and small businesses for over 10 years and I've seen more problems with Norton and McAfee than any other AV application. I install AVG for my clients because it's reliable, lightweight and free and I've never had any problems with it.
I have used other free or lightweight AVs but AVG has been the tops for me.

I use Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security on everything and have never had a problem. It's not free, but I think it's worth the $15 I get it for on eBay.

Used AVG on many PCs for last few years. Switched to Active Virus Shield for its superior flexibility in scheduling of tasks and which areas of the PC are to be scanned. It also updates definitions throughout day, instead of once per day. Compared to the old AVG, AVS provides better tweaking options for the user.

AVG is ok, but Avast! Home is much better IMHO.
I am running Active Virus Shield and Avast! together, they do run together but you must install Active Virus Shield first, I do get a pop up from Avast! when the PC is starting up saying it has turned off some parts of Avast! program because Kaspersky i.e Active Virus Shield is running.
I would only run Active Virus Shield as my virus program but it is missing web site scanner and a Network scanner, so running the two together gives me the full package.
And running the two together dosen't use to much of my PC resources.

the new AVG 7.5 says it's a trial, and after 30 days, the Resident Shield and Automatic Updates will be turned off. What gives? I have used AVG for years, and like you others, have put it on hundreds of computers.

I REALLY LIKE THE FREE AVG ANTI-SPY SYSTEM.IT HELPS ME TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH WHAT I NEED TO STAY SAFE. BUT I GUESS I NEED TO GET THE ONE THAT I HAVE UPDATED AND I NEED TO GET IT FOR FREE BECAUSE AT THIS POINT IN TIME

I've tried alot of anti virus programs,of witch I think AVG is the best,i had norton 2006,and want my money back,I had a serios virus,problem cause norton did not do it's work,i've tried kaspersky,bitdefender,avast but none came thru a friend told me about AVG and it sorted out all my troubles,
And Pc is better than ever and free from those Momory Hogs
