Feature Request: 2007 Office system
What feature do you wish Office 2007 had? Is there something that you think Microsoft should have included, or something they shouldn't have left out? If you could have one thing in Office that it doesn't have, what would it be? I often think of many things that I really wish a developer would include in their products, and it seems that in comments, a lot of you feel the same way. So, what would you include in Office if it was your sole executive decision? An easy button? Let 'er rip, maybe the minions of Redmond will read this and hear us, and implement our ideas. Sure, it could happen.

Isn't it a bit late to be posting this? Microsoft has released the final beta of Office 2007, and is going into manufacturing literally any time now, to coincide with the November launch of Vista for volume licence customers...

I want them to stop helping me. Every "feature" that autoformats, autocorrects, asks me if I'm writing a letter, pastes in html just because the text was copied from a browser, and so on is always wrong about what I want and should stop trying. I look with trepidation at the new scheme where menus will appear and disappear depending on what I am doing at the moment. Given their record so far, there is no possible way they are going to guess that correctly.

The one major gripe I have with office is its equation editor. As a scientist I find it a nightmare to produce a document with equations in word. I would like to see latex style equation editing in both word and powerpoint. To top it off it would be nice if the formatting for equations in word does not affect that used in powerpoint and vice versa.

Outlook needs the ability to simply add subtasks to tasks. Nested tasks, or the ability to organize tasks by project is something that Outlook needs to implement. Until this happens, the task function of Outlook is basically useless.

Some nice formatting in the excel formula input! Why not a nice equation editor ? Today, long formulas are just un readable. It would be nice to be able to toggle a nice view for the formula. Imagine instead of Sum(xx;xx;sd) a nice big Sigma!

I pray for two things for several years:
- allow multiple mobile/home/work numbers to be added to a single contact (+ make new address book entries just like symbian nokia have)
- allow NORMAL work with imap (saving sent messages on server in selected folder)
:)

It would be nice to be able to add multiple Personal Folder's (PST's) at once in Outlook. In my corporate environment, we have clients with 25+ PST's. If we have to re-create their profile, it is a bear to have add each PST one at a time.

Taking over where pjcamp (7.) has left, how about beginning by taking most existing fancy features away and then carefully weighting the pros and cons of returning them back in the products? :-). Then, let's evaluate new ones.
Any software that is developed only on the basis of feature requests will be cumbersome to use and understand. It ends up making most unhappy.
The best software applications I owns were designed neither by customers nor marketing gurus but by programmers who have had a precise need and the expertise to implement a solution for it.

I would like to see an export to flash function for powerpoint. This would be helpfull for distibution of presentations on the web. Openoffice offers this but it doesn't support sound, which is really needed.
