Google Picasa updates and moves out of beta
On Wednesday, Google pushed its digital photo application Picasa out of beta, with many new updates. The Picasa Build 32.91 updates include:
- Sharing photos online though Picasa web albums
- Choose how folders are displayed in Picasa, though a nested folder view, or date view.
- Importing photos into an existing folder.
- Choose between four presentation views for screensavers.
- Tell Picasa where you shot each photo, and geotagging ads some nice integration with Google Earth. KMZ files can be exported and shared with others.
- Thumbnails appear larger and clearer.
- RAW formats and more camera models are supported.
- Caption editing has been updated.
- Starred photos get organized into a special album.
- Buttons can be configured to the user's specifications.
I love Picasa, and use it daily to organize, view and store my digital photos. Over the past few months I have been experimenting with the Picasa Web feature, and I have to say, it's a great tool to use to send digital pictures to family and friends for viewing anywhere, and display them in a nice online gallery.

I wonder how long it will take Google to add Web Albums to Picasa for Linux?

I use Picasa every day, but the 250MB limit on the web albums is killing me.
Please just switch to an ad-based free storage system. Yahoo is unlimited free storage, as does webshots, etc., etc. Isn't this supposed to be GOOGLE? Why so chincy with the storage space? Sucks.

I totally agree! Users need more space! PicasaWeb is still in a test phase, so i guess they still could be playing with the size thing... or maybe their extra storage data centers are not complete yet?
They do have the option to purchase more space:
For $25.00 per year, users can get a subscription to an additional 6GB of storage %u2013 room to post and share approximately 25,000 photos.

I tried to download standart picasa after reading this, and it is version 28.x. I re-downloaded picasa-beta (web albums) but it is still 32.71 for me, and still beta. Any ideas?

Pretty sure you have to go to http://picasaweb.google.com/home and click on the bottom download link for the newest releases - might want to update the link in the article

Yeah, something is wrong here. I don't see any non-beta format. I ended up downloading and installing Picasa2 again (by accident)...and the latest version with web albums is still BETA.
????????????????

I did exactly the same thing as fincan - I can't find a non-beta version of picasaweb... and it took me a while to find a link to the picasaweb download. Had a small heart-attack.
I love Picasa though. Hopefully I can find this non-beta version of Picasaweb.

I also tried to download the non beta version and ended up with the re-downloaded picasa-beta (web albums) but it is still 32.71 for me, and still beta. and worst of all my older version was reading my RAW files and now with this version it is not reading them. I am bummed. Anyone know where to get the non-beta version and I hope it will work with my Olympus RAW files.

I'm not sure but i think picasaweb and picasa will be one in the same, this update allows you to post to picasaweb,so... That and i couldn't see Google releasing two different versions of Picasa, they need
to get rid of Hello.

Unfortunately, storage upgrade is available for U.S. users only. That's why only some of you can see this option.
