Flock CEO flies away

I tried it and still use it from time to time... But all my friends who are switching to mac are starting to use it as their default browser...

I use Flock on Ubuntu but Firefox on a PC. On the PC version, the memory leak that they plan to fix soon just kills the computer; I've seen Flock take over 900MB of memory (and that's before it crashed). The Linux version doesn't seem to suffer from that leak or Linux just manages it better because I never have problems with it.

The one thing that I think is really hurting Flock is the incompatibility of some - well, most - of the extensions. And because few developers are going to write two versions of their code to maintain and support, you won't get the same following that Firefox has. IMHO, of course.

Its ties to service providers (many being owned by Yahoo) get to me sometimes and I think that they are not as quick as Mozilla to come out with updates but they are a small company looking to get a good start and they might have limited resources. But I do think that if Flock had full extension support for all Firefox plugins, it would be great and I think that it could really take off.

I really love flock. Even if there are a lot of extension that doesn't work yet. I loved Firefox because of it's flexibility and the ability to customize it, but when I take a closer look to flock I fell in love with it and forget about the extension-problem. The social-bookmark integration is awsome.

But for friends of mine and people I talked with - the lack of extensions was one of the big point not to use Flock.

I'm full of hope - of course - I'm a woman in love :)

Firefox is my default browser. But I love to use Flock for Blogging and the Feed Aggregator. The Photo tool is pretty good too.

I guess you could say that I use it more as a Blog/Social Media tool rather than as browser. I'm pretty sure they'd be happy with that. No?

I had used flock as my default browser for a couple of months, and was very impressed by some of it's features, and not so impressed by the others. After the feed reader that is a part of the default install stopped working, I gave up.

I had used firefox for about 2 years, and then found out about flock; used it once, and ditched it for firefox again. Then, I checked out flock once again to use both the wordpress (blogging) feature and the drag and drop imaging, pasting, etc. feature. I used flock a good 3 months. And then I reformatted. It used a bit too much memory, and basically, I thought I could download extensions to do the same thing..

I like Flock the most for the built in newsreader. It is the most functional, versatile of all the various newsreaders I tried. Until something better comes along I will continue to use Flock as my default browser because of the newsreader.

I tried Flock when it was released, I wasn't too impressed. I stuck with my Opera browser.

I've been using flock on both the Windows and Linux platforms for a while now and must say I, too, love the newsfeed, and blogging features. Yes, I occasionally miss a favorite firefox extension, but this seems to be getting better.

I've turned a few people on to it lately, and that photobar eye-candy sure helps seal the deal.

The only thing in my opinion that Flock needs work on is the bookmarks.

Yeah they are "tagged" and such... But it's kinda like all the bookmarks are just thrown into one pile, and you have to hunt through and find them. The search only finds results I KNOW are bookmarked about 25% of the time.

Flock needs to bring back folders in the bookmarks. :(

I successfully switched from Firefox to Flock on my iMac and it's quite nice. All Firefox extensions install, the feed reader is very nice, built in spell check, social tools. And a really cool search box that searches history and bookmarks along with the web.

Yes, use it as an extra browser if I have to check my other gmail accounts for instance. I feel its a lot faster. Sadly, these companies don't think about business model first and then design a product

Even the blogs I have read using Flock successfully may not be using it as a substitute for their main browser, as much as a complimentary one they might prefer using to read and maintain blogs.

I can see how it could be more elegant and useful, if I were doing the things it is useful for, and doing primarily those things. However, now I am barely doing those things at all. (no blog, etc).

Hmm, how well does it work with the new Flickr and Blogger being pals (blogger allowing Flickr [yahoo] accounts to provide the images for Blogger [google]) blogs)?

I do use Flock as my default browser.

In fact, I love its extra features, especially the Star button. It saves me a lot of works clicking del.icio.us button on and fill in a form within an extra window.

Both I (a Web Developer) and my girlfriend (not even close) use Flock as our default browsers.

I love the star button, photo bar and local results in the search bar.

But I hate the horrible memory leak. I also worry a bit about the lag between when FF updates and when Flock applies the same fixes.

I would like to see greater flexibility in adding services in the photo and bookmarks. Although the defaults (Flickr, del.icio.us) work fine for me, I'd like to see the same breadth the offer for blogging (they support Drupal, for example).

If, for example, WebShots offers an API for its users I'd like to be able to add it. Perhaps something like the ability to manually set the add, edit, delete functions if you're brave enough.

Flock's greatest value might be as an example to other browsers for the features and the viability of offering choices to their users.

For now, it allows my girlfriend to actually use all those great sites (del.icio.us, Flickr, her blog) from "one screen". Even though she's getting used to tabs, she's not exactly a "CTRL+T CTRL+L flickr.com" kind of gal.
