Windows Vista available for pre-order from Amazon
Earlier today we reported that Windows Vista's pricing and release date has been leaked. Now both seem to be confirmed by Amazon, which is now offering the OS for pre-order. The mega-retailer lists Vista Ultimate as shipping on January 30 with a price tag of $399. It comes on a DVD-ROM and its sales rank is currently number 79 in the software category and climbing. Oddly, Amazon says "Windows XP" for "Platform" and "Yes" for "Discontinued by manufacturer."[Via Engadget]

You have *got* to be kidding me. That's *way* too much for a desktop OS! If I wanted to pay that much for a computer, I would buy a Mac!

Vista Ultimate - that's all the bells and whistles. The prices don't seem bad. It's that or I get nickeled and dime for the same features to be badly incorperated into XP using shareware. I buy a new system, I will buy a mac. I will still buy Windows for it as well. I will have two well produced OSes and one very solid system.
