Adam Pash's latest "Hack Attack" column over at Lifehacker is a great guide to
making the most of bookmark keywords in Firefox. In case you're not familiar, Firefox lets you assign keywords to your bookmarks which serve as shortcuts: For example, if you assign the keyword "dls" to your Download Squad bookmark, from then on you can just type "dls" in your address bar to get here. But if you're going for super-speed, you'll want something shorter, like just "d". Anyway, Pash's guide covers more than just that, of course, including quick searches (I'm up to 50, how 'bout you?) and a cool extension called OpenBook that streamlines this stuff even more. If you're a fan of keyboard shortcuts and are interested in speeding up your browsing in Firefox, don't miss this article.

I've been using keyword bookmarks and quicksearches for quite some time (dlsq, ngdt, tuaw, lhkr, ghck, osnw, arst, etc - last one isn't a keyword... but could be) but wasn't familiar with the OpenBook extension. It should save me some work for future bookmarks so I say thanks for the tip.

Uh ... I use FURL. I've totally lost my bookmarks so many times I can't count so I began backing them up -- over and over and over again. I back them up w/ FURL as well, but it's soooooo much easier!

I actually need this not so much for x different search engines, but for the quick access to the different google versions: normal google, google german, google searching in german or just for germany or blogsearch.
the toolbar only helps so much because you do get different results on each one of the above and what you get out of the toolbar.
but setting them up really was hassle and this opendoc really looks interesting. oh there is so much good stuff we can do with firefox :)
And yes, keyboard all the way to go. Unless we have something like working speech recognition and processing, i cannot understand how people think gestures and mousemovents could be a way in the correct direction.
