Yahoo! diving into personalized search

Yahoo! Search BuilderMoving into the space pioneered by Rollyo, Yahoo! has launched Yahoo! Search Builder, which essentially allows users to create customized search engines based on parameters of their choosing. Like Rollyo, Yahoo! Search Builder lets you create a search engine for a particular site or a collection of sites, or the entire web. For example, you could set up a personalized search for all of your favorite recipe sites. It also lets you include or exclude certain keywords, so you could set up a search for all sites that include the keyword sports but not baseball. Lastly, Yahoo! Search Builder also has a Yahoo! News option that lets you include or exclude certain categories or limit news to certain sources. Once you've got those details sorted out, you can customize the way search results are displayed, including adding your own header and logo (though Yahoo!'s own ads and other content are not optional), as well as the appearance of your search box and Yahoo! Search Builder will generate an HTML snippet for you to paste into your web site. When people use your search box, Yahoo! will generate reports on top keywords, traffic, referrals, etc. From start to finish, the whole process is fairly quick and painless. While I'm a big fan of Rollyo, Yahoo! search builder is sure to see some success if only because of Yahoo!'s ubiquity.
