Yahoo! Trip Planner - out of beta
We've mentioned before that Yahoo! Trip Planner had been added to Yahoo! Travel before, but we neglected to tell you that it recently lost it's Beta designation and gained a bunch of new features. The service wraps a number of Yahoo! services into a focused area to collect ideas \ events on your journey. Pictures can be uploaded to your Flickr account and presented in the trip; Yahoo! Local is linked to provide locations and events that you can get to; Yahoo! Maps is used to show where you go - very nice example of an 'in-house' mashup. All this is hooked into the Social Community work Yahoo! has been playing with - you can open your trip to other users who can add advice
I'm going to be in the San Francisco area (San Bruno) next week, so I figured I'd see what the tool can do.
Here's a link to my trip: San Bruno, CA - July 06
It's pretty bare right now - I promise to update it as the actual trip progresses - feel free to offer suggestions on what's worth getting to next week :)
Oh - and as a bonus, it looks like there is a promotion going on for free flights...

Yes, I used the trip planner for a recent trip to Orlando. It's actually pretty decent if you're headed to an area you've never been to before. Being able to check stats & reviews on hotels, restaurants, etc. and of course being able to map to/from directions to each and every place you're going to is an excellent thing - not to mention it automatically saves those directions. My suggestion for the best use of Y!TP is probably the more time-consuming route, which is to add & map out all possible ventures on your trip, and then delete what you really won't need in the end. I did this over the course of several days, mapping out distances from different hotels to different restaurants, or from the airport to different hotels, and all sorts of combinations. Once I made my choice, I just deleted the extra combinations. Time-consuming, yes, but I think it's worth it in the end.

I think that's a great idea - especially if you may it Public.
You can put in all the 'potential' things you'd like to do and solicit feedback from people reading the trip.
Like you say, at the end, you can pare it to what you actually did and add more comments or pics.
