Certainty, it seems, isn't Microsoft's strong suit these days.
Last we heard about Windows Vista's release date, Jim Allchin was saying it was right on track, but Steve Ballmer wasn't so sure. Now according to Bill Gates there's an
"80 percent chance" that Vista will meet its targeted January launch date. That's what he said at a recent technology conference in Cape Town. Eighty percent isn't terrible, but I wouldn't make any bets with odds like that.

I would much rather have them take their time ironing out all the gliches than rush such an upgrade into the market.

Don't care. Installed Ubuntu Linux and a ton of very competent open source software. It's on one downloaded CD, and it's FREE. Looks and runs great!

Gardiner, maybe it's better, but I keep Windows for games. It's not a secret, that almost all games are releasing for Windows. Also they use DirectX, rare OpenGl. And for me, big gamer, life without windows equal life without games equal death

Gaming is definitely the "last mile" that Linux needs to overcome.
I think the Linux gaming community should come together and develop a game developers distro (perhaps built upon Ubuntu?), which would help encourage the development of Linux binaries simultaneously as a Windows game is being made.
Imagine buying Quake Wars for Windows but the DVD not only also includes a Linux version, it also comes with a full Linux operating system install to run the game. This is all technically doable, but the Linux community has to come together to make such a choice a reality.
